D. Knowledge on First Aid Practices Small cuts and contusions may be cleaned using soap and tap water. Open and expose wounds caused by deep penetrating or sharp objects to prevent growth of bacteria. Fracture, sprains and dislocation must be immobilized through either bandaging or splinting. Immediate washing of the wound skin is necessary. Dogs with rabies must be killed immediately if it had bitten a victim. Lay the fainted person on a surface with head lower than the feet. E. Level of Knowledge on Health Concepts and Practices A. Knowledge on Maternal and Child Care Headache, dizziness and edema of face, hands, and legs are common signs of pregnancy. Umbilical cord of the newborn baby that remains fresh may be cleaned by wiping. Breastfed infants are healthier than bottle-fed ones. Thick clothing should be removed when babies have fever to lower body temperature. Family planning is good to ensure good maternal and child health. Pre-natal check-ups are important to prevent complications. Vitamins, milk and good diet help pregnant mother to maintain good health. B. Knowledge on Communicable Disease Communicable disease such as measles, TB, tetanus can be prevented. Blood streaked sputum or phlegm from coughing is a sign of diarrhea. People with communicable diseases must be isolated. Drinking a lot of water, juice and taking vitamins are necessary when one has cough and colds. Separate utensils of sick members of the family as they may spread infection to other family members.
