I thought it would be helpful to summarize various issues that have cropped up on 230 Series boats.

Below is a list I have been trying to keep up to date: Major Issues: 1. Trailer bow-stop fix - still needed even with latest fix from Yamaha 2. Plug blowouts - choose between PPF with added wing nut or welded on wrench, pin fix, or spring fix 3. Low speed handling - Cobra Steering fins, or a lot of practice needed 4. Throttle recall on early HO engines 5. Weld for the MFI spare tire bracket fails 6. One report of engine seizing after winter storage 7. Lower RPM, hence lower top speed, at high altitude locations 8. Problems reported with gas filler and vent lines - possibly bad check valves. 9. One report of gas tank leak at the 2 round metal rings where the engine fuel lines tap into the tank gas will only leak if tank very full. 10. Many reports of intermittent wake mode on one or both engines. 11. Reports of engine cooling water outlet hose either not being connected or coming loose - floods engine bay and eventually boat with scalding hot water. 12. One report of exhaust leaking into intake, clogging air filter. 13. One report of the two bolts behind steering wheel that hold cables being cross-threaded and barely in. Loose bolts=slackcables=no steering! 14. Engine exhaust clamps may be present, but not tightened down - serious CO danger for passengers. 15. One report of frayed throttle cable preventing throttle to close completely; without a fully closed throttle, the engine will not start. 16. Pink stains on vinyl caused by ink bleed-through from back side. Ink is used to mark pattern before prior to cutting, and may take time to appear, so even if your new boat looks OK, pink may begin to appear later on and is not removable. 17. Small oil leaks on engine blocks (head gaskets?) being reported by many. Source of leaks TBD. Minor Issues: 1. Gas gauge needs calibrated 2. Speedometer may need adjusted 3. If pitot speedo, then add clamp to tube in ski locker, otherwise it will come off and flood ski locker 4. Fuel guage wiring diagram is wrong 5. A lot of bimini connections are coming out on port side 6. Red water flush hose needs rerouted. 7. The steel they used for the winch mount is way too thin and soft for a 1500 lb. winch, and deforms

under heaving winching. 8. Beads on trailer tires have trouble seating, causing slow leak 9. Socket head cap screws on AR's upper tower mounting points bent from factory. 10. Grab rails up in the bow may come loose, which can cause gelcoat to crack when you lift up on them. Double-Checks: 1. Steering linkage may need lubed 2. Bare wires may be exposed behind steering wheel - if so, use liquid electrical tape on bare sections 3. Don't overfill oil, or it will flood air filter - some owners think filling cold to full line causes overfill when hot 4. Loose bolts and nuts are everywhere - tighten and lockite where appropriate 5. Gaps in sealant in hull have been reported at nearly every fixture 6. Fit check carpets in boat - snap locations have been off between carpet and deck 7. Screws that hold in drain plug and speedo may leak and need some silicon 8. Main seals between jets and chassis may have gaps in silicon 9. Check spark plug tightness, since some have reported loose plugs on new boats 10. Reverse gate height may need adjustment, since some have reported one being too low and dragging in jetstream 11. Nozzles may need adjustment, since some have reported offset steering 12. Check for deck fiberglass delaming from wood underneath - soft spots in deck 13. Inspect the screws that hold on the trailer bunk rails, since some have reported missing or loose bolts 14. Throttle lever tension may need adjustment, since some have reported throttles slipping back to idle 15. Verify full movement of lever gives full throttle body opening 16. Ground strap between engines may be loose 17. Strip off padding below the tail end of the windshield warps 18. May have unsealed pilot hole behind transducer bracket in hull 19. Lanyard clamp may need adjustment to allow starting 20. Line to pee holes may be kinked 21. Rear cleats' nuts loose, causing them to fall off. 22. Water pools in middle of cover - poles need to be longer 23. Verify you have a zipper at rear of bimini top, for extension. 24. Pins that hold the bimini support poles keep falling out, need secured. 25. Check inside of sleeve in jet housing for too much silicon bead, which will cause shudder - if so, trim with razor.

26. Button in the bimini telescoping tube may not protruding far enough to pop into hole in larger diameter tube and hold leg at the correct length. 27. One report of driver side storage locker door coming apart on 1st outing. 28. Ignition switch may be loose; if so, tighten nut behind dash. 29. Machine screws in top of air filter cover should not use loctite, causes thread receiver in lower boss to spin and prevents removal. 30. One report of speedo wire having no sealant around it, letting water in. 31. One report of bildge drain hole through hull drilled too large, breaking into screw holes that hold in fitting, preventing tightening. 32. One report of scupper valve drain assembly cracking. This is a big hole at lowest point of boat - if this assembly gives out, you are going swimming. I probably should add that I am not criticizing Yamaha, just communicating issues. Everyone appears to be very happy with their Yamaha boats, and feel quality is on pare or better than comparable boats.

they should have (and it is not mentioned here yet) shut off valves for the water cooling so if you need to run one engine it wont flod the other. and you could get home at full speed on one also. that would cost them what (hardly anything) compared to what it provides another not mentioned is a Voltmeter. how do you have a boat with fancy radios and speakers and not have a gage to tell you if you cant restart it or not after swimming...... or give us two batteries from the start so every one would not have to add the second battery at a later date. _________________ Poor workmanship on the bilge drain. I got a chance to pull the brass fitting off and found that they had drilled the hole through hull too large. All three screws had just a sliver between the screw hole and the fitting hole. Two of the three had broken thru and thats why they would not tighten up. I can not just turn the fitting because I will have the same problem. Im taking it to the dealer tomorrow. In my mind the is a manufacturing defect and should be covered under the 5 year hull warranty. Wish me luck. Typically, when there is alot of water in the engine compartment, the cleanout caps have blown open. I put an extra high water alarm in the engine compartment to help me know when this happens. It is not a design flaw, just a flaw in my replacement of the cleanout caps. It happens at least once a year. A couple of issues that I've experienced with my 08" 232 ltd;

1) One of my batteries committed suicide this year and had to be replaced 2) Comapss broke and had to be replaced. (fell off of whatever makes it float) 3) Fresh water Shower hose was completly covered in rust after one year. I insisted that they replace it 4) Water pump on fresh water shower has air-locked on numerous occassions 5) Seat cusion just behind captains chair has come off while driving. It stayed in the boat luckily. The dealers response was that I should always trailer the boat with the cover on 6) Had to have dealer re-glue some of the deck pads on the rear swim deck 7) some of the door seals had to be refitted (Head hatch and storage compartment behind helm) Had to replace the jack stand during the winter (gears became stipped) Here's my new list for the dealer for my winterization appt tomorrow; 1) Horn has lost it's normal sound (sounds like a duck now) 2) Bolster on the captains chair tends to bend when in rough water. After numerous waves it'll sag to one side. 3) One of the locking pins on my bimini top has rusted and broke 4) Colored inserts on the steering wheel have all fallen off this summer 5) Moisture in the rear audio remote control I'm just glad that I insisted that my dealer give me the 5 year warranty for free. Helps with the pain a bit on a 40k boat
