(User Manual)

MiCOM P211 Three-phase LV Motor Protection Relay User's Manual

Note: The mounting and connection of the device should be carried out by qualified personnel. 1. Product Description MiCOM P211 protection relay is designed to protect three-phase LV motors with nominal voltage up to 1,000 V against overloads, phase-phase faults, noload running (eg. pump idling), supply current unbalance, loss of phase operation and overheating. 2. Mounting Procedure The device is mounted on 35 mm DIN rail. In order to remove the relay from the rail use a narrow, flat screwdriver, put its tip in a special opening in the bottom part of the device's base and push the screwdriver handle upwards to release the spring bolt. 3. Motor Feeders Connection 3.1 If the motor rated current In is within the setting range of the protection thermal current threshold IB. The motor phase feeders should be fed through guiding channels in the relay case (fig. 1). 3.2 If the motor rated current In is lower than the minimum IB setting value. The motor phase conductors should be coiled several times through guiding channels in the relay case (fig. 2). The number of turns (n) must be identical for each of the phases and should equal: n IB / In. Example: Motor rated current In = 2.1A, MiCOM P211 with a range of 5 - 10 A n 5 / 2.1 = 2.38, n = 3; Setting: IB = 3 2.1 = 6.3 A. a relay setting of 6.0 or 6.5 A can be set. 3.3 If the motor rated current In is greater than 80 A. Three current transformers should be applied. Their secondary circuit wires should be fed through guiding channels in the relay case (fig. 1). It is recommended to apply CTs of Class 3 or 5 with a secondary current of 5A. The primary rated current of the CT's should be similar to the rated current of the motor. Inp should be 0.8 In, where: Inp - CT primary rated current In - motor rated current Example: Motor rated current In = 141A, CTs: 150/5 A, MiCOM P211with a range of 4 - 6A Setting: IB = (5/150) 141 = 4.7A; a relay setting of 4.6 A or 4.8 A can be set. 4. Connection of Remaining Circuits Screw terminals at the bottom of the front panel 2 allow connection of 1.5 mm wire. Terminals: A1-A2 auxiliary supply voltage Vx 13-14 NO contact of P1 relay 23-24 NO contact of P2 relay T1-T2 PTC thermistor sensors (a serial loop of 1-6 sensors). T1-T2 must be closed, if PTC sensors are not used. S1-S2 external NO control contact which activates one of 4 functions, selected by a user from the relay keypad. S1-S2 must be opened, if the control contact is not used.

5. Setting and Programming the Relay

Relay settings can be entered before it is connected to a motor. When connected to a motor the relay settings should be changed when the motor is stopped. 5.1 The MiCOM P211 can be set from the relay keypad (item 1, fig. 3) and light emitting diode (LED) display, which displays all relevant information (fig. 4). Fig. 5 shows the relay menu structure, default settings and relay navigation procedure. The menu items with a darker background are programmable settings and options. 5.2 Keypad Button Functions Go to next menu item (up); Increase a setting value or an option number. Go to next menu item (down); Decrease a setting value or an option number. Go to next protection function (left or right); Go to next password digit (left or right). Enter cell / accept settings or options; Reset settings 5.3 Setting procedure a) Connect the auxiliary voltage Vx to terminals A1-A2. A series of indications should then follow: - I>, I>>, I<, , PTC LED indicators flash for a moment - depending on the relay current range, one of symbols: PR1, PR2, PR3, PR4, or PR5 is displayed for about 1 second - L1 indicator comes on and '0.0' symbol appears P1/P2 output states after the supply voltage has been applied: - P1 energised, the contact closes (terminals 13-14), - P2 energised, the contact closesd (terminals 23-24), if option 1 was chosen in step * of the menu, - P2 de-energised, the contacts open (terminals 23-24), if 0 was chosen in step * of the menu. The P1/P2 outputs perform as described above, when the supply voltage Vx is switched on for the first time or after all tripped protection features have been reset. , etc., used in the manual refer to the NOTE*: the icon default settings, shown in fig. 5 If the protection trips and is not reset before switching off the

LED indicator will be restored to the status before the voltage interruption. To start the motor the tripped protection must be reset following the procedures described in section 7. b) Using the menu diagram (fig. 5) and relay keypad, select the menu item to be changed. c) Press : If a password has been input before, the LED displays 'P000' with the last digit blinking. Now select the correct password number with or keys. Use the key to go to the second password digit, and then repeat the described procedure. Press . Setting edit mode is now accessible. If no password has been input before, the rightmost digit of the display starts blinking. The setting values should now be entered, following the steps described above. After all the setting values have been input, press , to accept the setting. Go to the next menu setting to be changed and repeat the above procedure. If a password has been entered, then after completing the changes of settings, go to item and press . All the new settings are now accepted and edit mode is exited (the password must be re-entered to change any setting when out of the edit mode). 5.4 Entering a password Note: A three-digit password can be used to provide security. The settings can then only be read unless the password is entered. a) Choose menu item and press . The third digit of the display (password) starts flashing. Input the password number with b) or keys.

A constant lit LED indicates the I< undercurrent protection has tripped after its set time delay. 6.4 A flashing LED indicates that an unbalance current has exceeded the set threshold. The flashing LED can also indicate an unbalance due to a loss of phase. A constant lit LED indicates that the unbalance / loss of phase protection has tripped. 6.5 A constant lit PTC LED indicates that the temperature has exceeded the PTC trip threshold or T1 - T2 terminals have been opened. 6.6 The L1, L2, L3 LEDs light individually to indicate the L1, L2, or L3 phase current. All the LEDs light simultaneously when the maximum phase current of the last start is indicated. 6.7 The [%] LED lights at a readout of motor thermal state and while setting the I< undercurrent and unbalance thresholds. 6.8 The [s] LED lights at a readout of the last motor starting time and while setting the trip time values of I> overload, I< undercurrent, unbalance and Zf loss of phase protections.

6.9 The following indications occur when the auxiliary voltage Vx is applied to the relay:

- I>, I>>, I<, , PTC LEDs flash for a moment - depending on the relay current range, one of symbols: PR1, PR2, PR3, PR4, or PR5 is displayed for about 1 second - L1 indicator comes on and the '0.0' symbol appears The status of any protecion trip is memorised in case of auxiliary supply voltage interruption. Therefore the respective LED indicators will return after the Vx auxiliary supply is restored. To put the relay into stand-by, the tripped protection must be reset following the procedure described in section 7. The MiCOM P211 is then ready to operate.

6.10 The LEDs and display being off indicate the auxiliary supply voltage Vx has been switched off. Resetting is possible when the cause of the protection trip has ceased. 7.1 Reset by shorting terminals S1 - S2 (remotely or locally). If the menu option has been selected, a temporary shorting of the S1 - S2 terminals will reset all tripped protection and their LED indications. 7.2 Reset from the keypad. Select menu item and press

key. All tripped protection and their LED indications will be reset. For I> and PTC protection the reset will only take place, if reset option is chosen. 7.3 Self-reset (only for I> overload and PTC temperature protection). If option has been selected from the menu all tripped protection and their LED indications are reset automatically, after the casue of tripping has ceased. 7.4 Reset of motor thermal state To quickly reset the motor thermal state the keys should be pressed simultaneously. NOTE: Absence of auxiliary supply voltage Vx for the period of time longer than the reset time of the output relays, will make the motor thermal state reset.
