Last week we launched a new series of lessons on Friends of Paul. This is a series of studies on Bible characters who were involved in the life of Paul. This week, February 24, we are examining Barnabas, The Supporter (Acts 4:36 & 11:2-24). On March 3, it will be Mark, The Restored and on March 10, James, The Lords Brother. If you are not involved in a small group, on Sunday evenings, I encourage you to join us. Communion is available for those who desire. Also, remember that we now have activities for children each Sunday evening.
WEDNESDAYS: Our two study groups,
meeting at 10:00 am and 6:30 pm, are continuing an examination of the letter to the Ephesians. This week (February 27) we will be looking at chapter 5. We do invite you to be a part of these studies. If you always do what you always did, youll always get what you always got.
FINAL THOUGHT:
$ $ $ $ $
Last week in Childrens Church, we learned about the Tower of Babel. The people in this story, tried to build a tower so that they could be famous. They tried to make it about themselves, when God was the one they should have been worshipping! Sometimes we lose our focus on God and make it about ourselves. (Genesis 11:1-9) Throughout the hustle and bustle of life, let us always keep our eyes on God. Let us never make it about ourselves. And Let Gods light shine through everything we do! The only way that we can do that is to completely die to ourselves and live out each and every day fully for Christ! Showing His love through all of our actions. Galatians 2:20 - I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

SCOTTS THOUGHTS
Outreach and evangelism are not the same thing. In most cases if things work out the way we hope, the two will overlap and the results are powerful and amazing. In many cases, however much we try, outreach and evangelism get blurred into an unfortunate mess I call recruitment. Like most things that turn out badly, the issue is one of focus. Outreach is pure. It is simple. It is love. It is seeking to be a blessing to others and expecting absolutely nothing in return. That is also why it is difficult for us to do. Consider the following text from Matthew chapter 5:

You have heard the law that says, Love your neighbor[r] and hate your enemy. 44 But I say, love your enemies![s] Pray for those who persecute you! 45 In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. God blesses everyone, and so should we. Showing kindness to a sinner does not justify or condone their sin, but it does demonstrate Gods love and may open the door to a relationship that results in an opportunity to share Jesus and invite salvation. Outreach is often hindered by the assumption that there are strings attached, or obligations that come with the blessing. To those outside of Christ this is a major barrier because it is seen as manipulation. God loves us all, whether we accept His love or not. As people who wear the name of Jesus, we would do well to remember Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples. John 13:35.
Ray and I wish to thank each one of our Church Family for helping us thru the difficult time of Rays illness. There is not space enough to thank each person for their support. A special thanks to Brad and Dave for their visits and prayer, everyone who visited us in the hospital and at home, for the food that helped sustain us. It helped that I didnt have to take time out of a busy day to shop and cook. Thanks to the men who delivered the lift chair. What a blessing to have such a loving and caring family. If I have missed anyone, be sure that we thank you too. Again, thank you from the depths of our heart. ~ Ray and Mary Alice Coats

Core Values...
Values central to the life, mission and vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are:
Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through grace-based preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).
Global Evangelism
We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and Soon-Coming King (Acts 20:27).
Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.
Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).
OUR MISSION
Library Spotlight
The Legend of the Sand Dollar by Chris Auer is an early reader or a Mommy and Me book. Eight-year-old Kerry loves the ocean. But on this visit to the beach, she discovers a little-known treasure and learns of the story of Easter revealed in the sand dollar. Now you and your child can discover the story behind this small ocean treasure as stunning illustrations from the backdrop for this familiar seaside legend. Seen through the eyes of children, The Legend of the Sand Dollar shares the timeless hope of resurrection and new life the promise of Easter.
Christy by Catherine Marshall is for adult readers. Christy Huddleston left home at 19 to teach school in the Smoky Mountains. There she came to know and love the wild mountain people with their fierce pride, their dark superstitions, their terrible poverty, their yearning for beauty and truth. Christ found her faith severely challenged in these primitive surroundings; and, confronted with two young men of unique strengths and needs, she found her own growing yearnings challenged by love. Stop in the library and check out a good book! **********************************************************
We will no longer be doing blood pressure checks on the first Sunday of each month. If you would like to have your blood pressure checked while at church, please see Cindy Cox, Mark Hendricks, Tyler Hendricks, Bev Puckett, or Julie Stuck.
