Corporate Design Guidelines.

ANCAP Corporate Design Guidelines

As Australasias leading independent vehicle safety advocate, the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) provides consumers with transparent advice on vehicle safety through its safety rating program. ANCAPs primary objective is to inform and educate the public about the level of occupant and pedestrian protection provided by different vehicle models in the most common types of crashes. ANCAPs Corporate Design Guidelines set out the requirements regarding the application and use of ANCAP logos, fonts, corporate colours and the like. This guide also contains a number of layout samples which show how the various design elements should relate to each other. These guidelines have been developed for use by manufacturers, agencies and other outlets that may use ANCAP information and safety ratings in marketing and advertising materials. Please follow these guidelines when preparing any form of communication that carries or makes reference to the ANCAP brand.

Raising awareness is what ANCAP is all about.

It is therefore essential that ANCAPs corporate image is presented in a clear and consistent way as it is a central element in the way ANCAP communicates its message and reinforces its established and highly valued brand. So take a look through this guide. Youll see that all design elements have been carefully developed to present a distinctive, consistent and professional corporate image.

Who should use this guide.

Anyone involved with developing materials that carry or make reference to the ANCAP brand. This includes car manufacturers, advertising agencies, graphic designers, printers, web designers, ANCAP member organisations, ANCAP staff and other stakeholders.

When you should use this guide.

Whenever questions arise about the use or position of the ANCAP logo, brand marks or symbols or corporate image elements. It contains precise layout specifications for usage with the exact colours, fonts, space requirements, and logo placement details.

How you should use this guide.

It should be your first point of reference when creating marketing material, advertisements, signage, digital content, or any other communication that carries or references the ANCAP brand. A copy of this guide should be provided to any external suppliers producing such material.

A process of refinement.
ANCAPs aim is to continually refine and improve the way ANCAP is perceived by the public and by industry. These guidelines will be updated by ANCAP as necessary.

ANCAP logos
The ANCAP logos are the principal element of ANCAPs brand identity. They are in effect, the ANCAP signature, communicating ANCAPs corporate image to manufacturers and consumers. The ANCAP logos must never be re-drawn or altered in any way. The typesetting of the words should always remain in exactly the same relationship to each other, and to the symbol itself. All logo typesetting must remain in the exact sizes, position and fonts specified. Placement of the ANCAP logos must always conform to size and clear space requirements. The colours used in the ANCAP logos ensure the ANCAP brand is easily recognisable. These are the only colours in which the logo should be reproduced, apart from the black & white versions.

The ANCAP logo is produced in two forms - the rating logo (series) and the corporate logo. The series of ANCAP rating logo variants are for use on all consumer or public communications. The ANCAP corporate logo is for use on all corporate materials.

Page 4

ANCAP rating logos

The series of ANCAP rating logo variants are for use on all consumer or public communications. The series of rating logos were revised in 2012 and now feature the word Safety alongside the corresponding number of stars - from 1 to 5 - as opposed to the word Rated which featured previously. From 2012, the Safety rating logos are to be used in place of the former Rated versions. All rating logo variants are available in positive and negative (reversed) styles, and in black & white (mono). The positive logo is to be used when applied to a white or light coloured background. The reversed logo is to be used when applied to a black or dark coloured background. For ANCAP safety ratings of 4 stars or less, the greyedout star(s) which make up the total of five stars must be retained. [See 4 star rating logo example adjacent]. The greyed-out stars cannot be removed nor spacing increased between the stars. Care must be taken to ensure the ANCAP logos - in particular the rating logo variants - are applied to communication materials correctly, and only to those models and model variants which have been tested and awarded an ANCAP safety rating. References to ANCAP safety ratings and use of the ANCAP logo cannot be made by external parties until ANCAP has officially published its rating. The ANCAP rating logos are available from ANCAP in .eps and .jpg formats. Rating logo (4 star) Rating logo (4 star) mono

ANCAP corporate logo

The ANCAP corporate logo is for use primarily by ANCAP and its member organisations on all corporate materials publications, reports, stationery etc. The corporate logo is available in positive and negative (reversed) styles, and in black & white (mono). The positive logo is to be used when applied to a white or light coloured background. The reversed logo is to be used when applied to a black or dark coloured background. These two design treatments give stakeholders flexibility with regard to the best fit with their own brand guidelines. Placement of the corporate logo should always conform to size and clear space requirements. The full version of the corporate logo includes the words AUSTRALASIAN NEW CAR ASSESSMENT PROGRAM and may be used on occasions where it is felt a description of what ANCAP stands for is required.

Terminology and usage restrictions

To ensure clarity around the message of the ANCAP brand (i.e. promoting ANCAP as the leading vehicle safety advocate), the term ANCAP safety rating(s) should be used when making written and verbal references to ANCAP. For example: ANCAPs corporate design elements and brand identity may only be used on material that is related to the work, protocols, tests and ratings of ANCAP. The ANCAP brand should not be linked to any other tests carried out by, or on behalf of manufacturers or other organisations, however similar to ANCAP tests. The ANCAP brand should not be associated with any product or service that has not been directly assessed by ANCAP. The ANCAP brand should not be represented in any way that could mislead or relate to any aspect that is not part of official ANCAP assessment. ANCAP reserves the right to refuse or limit access to its imagery and other brand elements.

The Hyundai i45 has been awarded a 5 star ANCAP safety rating. The Hyundai i45 achieved the maximum ANCAP safety rating of 5 stars. The overall combined score is then translated into an ANCAP safety rating of 1 to 5 stars.
Examples of improper usage include:
