EFFECT OF MEDITATION ON STRESS

ABSTRACT

A study to assess the effectiveness of meditation on stress among workers in selected metropolitan Transport Corporation at Chennai. Objectives o To assess the existing level of stress among workers in a selected Metropolitan Transport Corporation at Chennai. o To compare the pre and post level of stress among workers in selected Metropolitan Transport Corporation at Chennai. o To associate the pre and post level of stress with the selected demographic variables. Methods Quasi experimental design. Result Overall level of stress in the pretest was 10(16.6%)had moderate and 50(83.3%) had severe level of stress. The overall level of stress in the post test shows 47(78.4%) had mild level of stress and 13(21.6%) had moderate level of stress. Conclusion The investigator having analyzed the data has come to the conclusion that most of the workers have mild level of stress and adequate coping after meditation therapy. Remarks o In service : Help the nurse to implement the meditation therapy to reduce stress. o In teaching : Educate the students techniques of meditation. o In research : A similar study can be conducted on stress among the nurses, police personnels, software professionals. Various stress management programmes could be chalked out and their effectiveness in stress reduction can be assessed.

REHABILITATION NEEDS ASSESSMENT

ABSTRACT

A study on assessment of rehabilitation needs among patients with various illnesses at Shri Ramchandra hospital , Chennai-116. Objectives o To assess the rehabilitation needs under different aspects,among patients with various illnesses. o To associate the selected socio demographic variables with the rehabilitation needs. Methods Descriptive study Result 40 patients were between the age group of 26-35.21 patient were between the age group of 36-45,23 pt. were between the age group of 46-55. The average duration of illness for medical patient was 8.72 days, the MD is 1.9616 days, sd is 2.5579 days. 22% of the patient need financial help , 14% of the patient need to settle their accommodation. All patient need recreation every day , 22% of the patient need help to perform ADLs. Conclusion Followed by assessment patients expressed their feelings and view which have been represented verbatim. Remarks o In service : Nurses should focus on holistic care to patients and implement it through a multidisciplinary approach. o In teaching : Educate the students and health members about all round needs and supports of the patient. o In research :

ASSESSING NURSES KNOWLEDGE OF HAND WASHING

A study to assess staff nurses knowledge and skill regarding hand washing technique in a selected private hospital in Kolkata. Objectives o To assess the knowledge & skill of staff nurses regarding hand washing technique. o To find significant association between knowledge and skill with selected demographic variables. o To find the relationship between knowledge & skill regarding hand washing. Methods A Descriptive co-relational design. Result On an average their knowledge score on technique of hand washing was 79.16%(very good)&skill score was 50.58%(fair) The staff nurses knowledge & skill had no significant association with the selected demographic variables. There was no significant relation between the knowledge & skill regarding hand washing technique (r=0.111,p=0.34)

Conclusion Most of the staff nurses have good knowledge regarding hand washing but they lack satisfactory skill. It may be due to less experience and lack of practice. Most of the staff needs special training on hand washing and needs adequate supervision in the practice area maintaining accuracy and prevention of hospital acquired infection. Remarks o In service : Special training programme should be conducted for the staff nurses for improving hand washing skill o In teaching : Aware the student nurses about merits of hand washing and trained them. o In research :Researches show the level of knowledge of staff nurses. These researches also help in reducing HAI.

WOUND MANAGEMENT AND HOME REMEDIES

ABSTRACT

A study to assess the wound management and home remedies used for wound care at Katpady village, Udupi district, Karnataka. Objective o To assess wound management and home remedies used for wound care. o To find the severity of wound and association sign and symptoms. Method Descriptive design. Result Data shows that out of 458 samples , 2.6% had present history of wound & 76.2% had past history . 25.3% applied ointment as first aid and once the wound was stabilized 54.6% went to hospital for further management. The home remedies which were used is coffee powder, coconut oil, turmeric powder & Aurvedic leaf. Out of 458 samples 12 had history of wound ,all 12 had minor wound. Sign and symptoms related to wound infection were fever, malaise, pain, swelling, redness, and discharge. Discharge may be clear, pus stained, blood stained. Conclusion A study was conducted for know the home remedies apply for wound management and severity of wound in rural areas Remarks o In service : nurses should give health education about first aid of wound management . o In teaching : rural person should taught about good home remedies for wound management. o In research : these researches helps for first aid treatment .

EFFECTIVENESS OF EXHIBITION ON HYPERTENSION

ABSTRACT

A pre-experimental study to assess the effectiveness of exhibition on level of knowledge regarding hypertension among clients with hypertension at selected setting, Chennai. Objective To assess the effectiveness of exhibition by assessing the pre-intervention and post intervention level of knowledge among clients with hypertension. Method Experimental study Result o In pre-test, 23.33% had adequately knowledge of disease condition, 56.67% had moderate knowledge, 20% had poor knowledge. o In post-test, 66.67% had adequate knowledge, 33.33% had moderate knowledge Conclusion Their was a high significant improvement in the level of knowledge of clients with hypertension in the post-test after the exhibition. Remarks o In service : PHC, sub centers can utilize the exhibition as a tool to improve the knowledge of clients o In teaching : Students can be motivated fir such exhibition and can be made as a part of curriculum. o In research : further studies can be done on effectiveness of role play on people awareness.

A study of effect of hot water foot bath therapy on patient with fever at Sri Ramakrishna hospital.

o To assess the temperature of patient with fever before and after application of hot water foot bath therapy. o Assess the perception of patient with opinionnaire on HWFBT. Method Quasi Experimental one group pre test post test. Result There was a significant difference in reduction of temperature after application of therapy. The mean difference was 2.21F. hot water foot bath therapy was highly effective in patient with blood related disease. the mean diff. was 2.25F. 72% of the participants were highly satisfied with the hot water foot bath therapy. Conclusion Hot water foot bath therapy can be advocated as a simple and safer means for reducing body temperature in home set up as well as in a hospital. Remarks In service : Nurse could explain advantages of HWFBT to patient with fever. It will be of immense help to to improve quality of life.. In teaching : HWFBT application can be included as nursing procedure to update their knowledge on evidence based practice. In research : The nurse researcher can conduct many studies in different alternative complimentary therapies to bring about newer perspective in nursing care

Dr. D Y A study was carried out at a medical teaching hospital, Bangalore, to explore the use of complimentary Patil college therapies in cancer patients. central Objective library o To describe the socio-demographic characteristics of cancer patients. o To de4termine the use of complimentary therapies. o To assess the diagnostic group of cancer patient using complimentary therapies. o To report the selected factors influencing the use of complimentary therapies. o Find the level of satisfaction of patients on usage of complimentary therapies. Method A descriptive survey was carried out. Result The findings revealed that 20 out of 30(66%) participants used complimentary therapies.majority of participants were females, under the age of 60, havimg a secondary and higher secondary level education. The main therapies used are watching T.V. going for outing, reading books,meditation,spiritual therapiesetc. of the participants used two or more therapies while one used nearly seven and one used hgomeopathy medicine. Patients reported psychological bemefits such as hope and optimism. Conclusion Complimentary therapies addresses the body, mind & spirit. It is used in conjunction with mainstream allopathic medicine to control symptoms and enhance quality of life. Remarks o In service : Nurses should provide helpful information regarding complimentary therapies. o In teaching : Teacher should taught the student nurses about complimentary therapies used in cancer. o In Research :The nurse researcher can conduct many studies in different alternative complimentary therapies to help the cancer patients.

FOOT CARE AMONG DIABETIC PATIENTS

A study to assessing the effectiveness of planned teaching programme on foot careamong diabetic clients of a selected hospital at Mangalore . Objectives o To identify the level of knowledge of diabetic patient on foot care. o To identify the practice of foot care by diabetic clients. o To develop a planned teaching programme on foot care. o To find the effectiveness of the programme. Methods Pre experimental one group pre test post test design. Result Most of the client (40%)were within the age group of 50-59.Maximum of patient 23(57.5%)no. of client had poor knowledge.the calculated value is greater than the table valuehense we accept that there was significant gain in knowledge on foot care among diabetic client. Conclusion The diabetic foot is one of the most commonest complication of diabetes. Health education programme on foot care will help the clients to modify their behavior and take steps towards prevention of diab. Foot. Method Qualitative design with phenomenological approach. Result Lived in experience of cataract patients before and after the surgery.There are many differences in various aspects such as physical dimension,psychological, economical, social, vocational, spiritual etc. in every dimension feel better after surgery. Conclusion Study identified that cataract has more influence on the patients quality of life, nurses as health care professional need to intensify their involvement in implementing the care to enhance the supportive environment and to reduce the suffering of cataract patient before and after surgery. Remarks o In service : Counseling should be done before and after the surgery. o In teaching : The nurse educator are responsible to include the identification of patients experience as a holistic approach in nursing curriculum. o In research : Evidence based care can be given through the research. CRITICAL CARE NURSES KNOWLEDGE IN PREVENTING PNEOMONIA

ABSTRACT

A study to assess the nurses knoeledge in preventing Nasocomial Pneumonia.. Objectives o To identify knowledge deficit concerning Nasocomial Pneumonia (NP) prevention among critical care nurses. o To determine whether nosocomial pneumonia was associatyed pneumonia was associated with nurse characteristics. Methods A survey study using a self administered Questionnaire. Result The NP knowledge score ranged from 21% to 92%. The mean was 485 items related to knowledge about NP risks had the highest mean score (67%)compared to items addressing NP prevention (43%)or the role of devises in the transmission of NP (45%). No nurse demographic or workplace characteristics was associated with NP knowledge. Conclusion Several important deficits injh Nasocomial Pneumonia knowledge were identified indicating a need for critical care murses to have a greater exposer to NP prevention,. Education, guidelines & research. Remarks o In service : enforces the importance of knowledge in NP prevention in hospital and emphasiss practice of Aseptic technique in NP prevention. o In teaching : Emphasis the teacher to focus on princip[les, need & method of preventing the complication of NP.. o In research : Helps in identifying the areas of deficits in preventive methods, providing the extent & rate of prevention.
