Introduction to the Annotated Bibliography (ALA)

Assignment
Create an annotated bibliography about some aspect of your ALA research or future career that is relevant to your interests. The purpose of this assignment is to synthesize the research in your career field or ALA research field that is relevant to your interests and pursuits and to share that research with others. Read about the concept of an annotated bibliography from the following two sites: o http://www.library.cornell.edu/olinuris/ref/research/skill28.htm o http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/614/01/

Specifications
You will negotiate with your instructor regarding your topic. In order to propose a topic, you should send a brief professional request via email using the appropriate subject line (5BRossA_AnnBibTopicRequest_2/22). Name your topic and describe it and its relevance to you in no more than five sentences. Begin on this NOW. Your annotated bibliography must include FIVE sources. Your sources should come from scholarly RESEARCH and ARTICLES in your field. Consider searching using Google scholar or DISCUS. You will write a brief introductory paragraph (and place it before the annotated bibliography entries) in which you offer a summary of the works cited and your conclusions drawn from that body of research. See Mrs. Carters example here: http://amyecarter.wikispaces.com/755ResearchSynthesis o Please note that this example does not follow strict APA formatting! For example, your entries should NOT be numbered. Your entries should also follow double-spacing and indentation specifications. Your final annotated bibliography should be saved to your iPad or computer as a Pages or Word file; however, you should email me a pdf version of it when it is due. Additionally you should submit a copy to turnitin.com. (Eventually, your annotated bibliography will be part of an ePortfolio/Google site, which requires that you keep it in an editable document somewhere.) When you email the final copy, use the following model for your subject line: 5BRossA_AnnotatedBibliography_3/1

Format
Submit in APA format. Include an APA title page. Omit the abstract. Begin the annotated bibliography after the title page. There will not be a References page, as this is what the assignment actually is. Its like turning the References page into a paper. An good APA example can be found here: http://library.bethel.edu/class/tutorials/writcit/1001APA_Ann_Bib_6thEd

Submission
Name your file meaningfully (refer to iPad Classroom Use Policy Guidelines). Submit a copy to www.turnitin.com Submit a pdf copy to your instructor via email.

Due Date
Annotated bibliographies are due (via email and Turnitin) by the time class begins on March 4, 2013. Late submissions will lose 10% per day late. A. Carter 2013
