CHAPTER 1 THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING Introduction Grading System is designed to provide incentive reward for achievement

and assist in identifying problems of the student. It is the most commonly used in computing and analyzing the performance, talent and skills of students. It is the important record to keep even for the longest time for the referral and credentials of the student to enter their next level of attaining their goals. It is the tract record that recognizes of one student, this maybe use for analyzing of your attitude and values. Based on our research the state of Cotabato Foundation College of Science and Technology grades of each student, which is the traditional use when technology is not yet developed. Manual computation is very prompt to risk for any circumstances. It is time consuming in terms of recording grades, computation using of calculator. If some records are lost, they never retrieve it in case of unexpected calamity. Accuracy and security is not been so defined in their manual system. Address to this observation, the proponents created a system entitled School Integrated Information Management System or SIIMs specified in Registrar Grading System (Tertiary). This study attempts to develop a Grading System that may eliminate the word manual. To that, it will lessen their time and effort for computing of grades. And eventually they may avoid rushing submission of grades. Another capability of the proposed system is storing and accessing old data. Grading System for Data Accuracy will help a lot in the part of teachers, school, administration and as well as the security of data of students. Objectives The primary purpose of this study is to develop a Grading System for the State in tertiary level and to achieve the following: 1. To develop a system that will replace the current Grading System in the state which is highly manual; 2. To eliminate lag time between the submission of grades... Computerized Grading System for San Sebastian College Recoletos Canlubang For partial fulfillment in CS FE1 Software Engineering Chapter 1 Introduction 1. Introduction and its Background Automation has had a notable impact in a wide range of industries beyond manufacturing (where it began). Once-ubiquitous telephone operators have been replaced largely by automated telephone switchboards and answering machines. Medical processes such as primary screening in electrocardiography or radiography and laboratory analysis of human genes, sera, cells, and tissues are carried out at much greater speed and accuracy by automated systems. Applying automation to Grading systems wherein it will also make a task easy and accurate. 2. Background of the Problem Since San Sebastian College Recoletos began over 4 years ago, many things in this school have gone from manual to automate. And because a typical problem in a starting school are Grading systems, I noticed that this system does not exist in this school. We all know that making an Automated Grading System means making the task for professors in computing and

calculating grades will become easy and not only that the professors will have an advantage but the students will also get a gain, because it will also improve accuracy of calculations thus making the what we call Hula of Grades will become non existent in the future of San Sebastian Recoletos. 3. Statement of the Problem San Sebastian College Recoletos Canlubang lacks a centralized grading system. It doesnt have a standalone program that will accept input, compute grades and print class cards all in a same program. 4. Objectives of the Study To have a fully implemented program that will help to ease jobs of professors and that student can rely on having an accurate grade. Objective Grading Format Calculates individual student grades Collects and displays data for Outcomes Assessments (Standard 1-1)

computing students performances and achievement. The same is through in keeping records and forms incorporated in their work aside from guidance and advice. Computation of grades in school became easy for modern teacher but for tradition alone they found difficult but now no burden in recording, transmitting, giving the equivalent and the final grades for teachers who are computer literate, where time, effort and energy is minimized. This is the point of this study, to device a program in order to ease the computation of grades and ranking the students basing their subjects performances. This is now the scenario and dilemma of Buenavista National High School. Now, with the technology which is to be developed, it will enable them to do more with less effort. The program will not continuously find way to improve and expedite the calculation of grades. The use of computer nowadays is necessary to replace the manual system that affects efficiency and effectiveness, accuracy and reliability Statement of the Problem * The manual computation of grades the Buenavista National High School. * Submitting grading sheets contains time consuming to prepare High School Card to deliver to Parents during Card Day. * Students records are sometimes lost and cannot be retrieved in case of any circumstances. Desired State of Technology The upgrading of the Buenavista National High School will facilitate the teachers in preparing grades, submitting grading sheets...

INTRODUCTION Grading is one of the most important activities a faculty member does. Many problems in teaching arise because of grading issues. Grading involves how you score quizzes, assignments and exams, what kinds of assignments and exams you give to your students, and how you assign grades in that specific subject at the end of the semester. Grading assignments and exams requires checking for correct answers to specific questions and providing feedback to students about how well theyve met the learning objectives for those particular class activities, and a grading system reflects your philosophy about your students, about competition, and about the acquisition of knowledge itself. Students should know your grading system at the beginning of the semester. It is important to answer all of the questions for students because research suggests that they will allocate their efforts in class based on your grading system. 1.1 Purpose of the Document 1.1 Purpose of the Document The purpose of this document is to present the Grading System, its objectives, features, and functionality. This Document will explain how the Grading System flows, how the data enters the System from outside sources, how the system manipulates this data. How processed data is being release by the system. This Document will explain each Interface of the Grading System and how to use it. This Document will also present the organization and its business rules that is the basis and the development of the Grading System and this Document will compare Grading System with other similar systems. 1.2 Scope of the Document This system must have security measurements for the security of the information like login system. The user can manage necessary information like information about students and their subjects. The user can also manage scores of different class activities like exams, quizzes, and other activities which is essential for the computation...[continues] INTRODUCTION Overview of the current system Computer world is now at our hands, this give improvement and development of all programs in the different agencies, in offices and in schools. Paper work become easy, computation is faster, record keeping and bringing out is fast. In schools, all works became easily fast to look at record, easily to reproduce student record. Since, computation of grades is one burden of the teachers, computerization made the answer in solving, in recording and

Chapter 1 1. Background of the study Al Hedaya Alkhalifia is the first regular school be established in Bahrain, It's was established in 1919. The education in Bahrain was limited to education in koranic schools who are studying the Koran. However, Al Hedaya Alkhalifia was limited to the teaching the children of rich people and the owners of the important centers in the country and then become the public from the people. It's a doubted by the ministry of education in Bahrain. as the time go the school has improved it teaching system and the activates to make the studying more effective for the student and now this school have been secondary school for boys in Moharraq. 2. Company's Current Situation Now, the school is using a manual grading system in which they are using papers, files, cards and calculators to calculate the marks of each student. This type of grading is very difficult and take along time in calculating the grad of each student, and the school spends money every year for papers files and other things, as well as there is big ability for losing or damaging the document. 3. Purpose of the Study I choose this type of grading system because it's much easier and to reduce many things such as: reducing the cost reducing the time that teachers spends in calculating grads reducing the ability for losing or damaging the documents to make it secure that only teachers can enter the system 4. Objectives of the study General objectives: Develop a computerized grading system for Al Hedaya Alkhalifia secondary school that is reliable, fast and

efficient use. Specific objectives: to identify the existing system. to erumerate the problems that encounters to be able to develop a system that is: *Fast and reliable * Reducing cost * Ensure that the information in secure place Chapter 1 Introduction Nowadays, in a highly technological society, human productivity is made more efficient through the development of electronic gadgets. Now, with the advent of such modernization in education, one way to globalize the process of research is to realize that technology is advancing at an incredibly fast phase. Computers are not confined to being used for entertainment but its role in education is also vast. Grading is one of the most important activities a faculty member does. Many problems in teaching arise because of grading issues. Isaias Tapales Elementary School is using a manual computation of grades of each student, which is the traditional use when technology is not yet developed. Manual computation is very prompt to risk for any circumstances. It is time consuming in terms of recording grades, computation using of calculator. If some records are lost, they never retrieve it in case of unexpected calamity. Accuracy and security is not been so defined. Computers are becoming in our life and one cannot image life without computers in todays world. If you go in any establishment computers are all places. We can say that this kind of innovation assist each and every one of us uses to experience a well-situated life. Thus, we students also need to use different gadgets, devices or modern technologies in order to have an easy going life at school. A manual computation in a school wont give us a quick computation. Grade is the primary need in every school all over the world. Statement of the Problem

Significance of the Study Educational This can be used as a guide to us, students, in making a computerized grading system in other school, if they want to improve their manual procedures. It has userfriendly interface that can operate easily. The students can also use our documentation as a source of their own research papers. The proponents also used the past thesis, and research papers of others students as their basis in doing its system documentation. Technological The proponents can say that new generation of technology really changes rapidly. And because of these different technology created, now more systems are now done without too much effort, instead we use devices that are convenient to do a specific tasks. This documentation done so we can prove that we can improve a manual system to a computerized system. Out from a manual, we had developed a more accurate and efficient way of recording grades in school. Economical This proposed system will not be too expensive. Almost every school has computers. The proponents can now use a computer to record the grade in school. Scope and Delimitations Scope The study covers how we conclude the right way of computing the grades simultaneously in all levels like recitation, quizzes, assignments, and attendance of pupils. This system will give us our right percentage in totaling the individual grades. This system allows the admin to change password for security. Delimitations Our program will not cover the enrollment, payroll and library system of the school. Chapter 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND Introduction Education must share the responsibility of developing technologically literate people (Bitter & Legacy, 2008). Both systemic reform and curriculum cannot be achieved without the aid of technology (Fletcher & Wolf, 2007). Grading and reporting are relatively recent phenomena in education. In fact, prior to 1850, grading and reporting were virtually unknown in schools in the United States. Throughout much of the nineteenth century most schools grouped students of all ages and backgrounds together with one teacher in one-room schoolhouses, and few students went beyond elementary studies. The teacher reported students' learning progress orally to parents, usually during visits to students' homes (Guskey). Students are evaluated on academic progress and on quality of citizenship. Report cards are issued every marking period and will be supplemented by interim reports at the mid-point of each marking period. In evaluating the performance of pupils in a given subject area, teachers take into account both oral and written

Definition Of Terms To be easily and fully understood by the readers, the researcher provided the definition of the following terminology used in this research paper. Algorithm is a description of a procedure which terminates with a result. Array is a variable that holds multiple values of the same type.
