From the Commodore

Commodore Dave Audiano is in severe ill health. I ask for your prayers for Dave, Geri and their whole family. Dave has been a loyal son of the Blue Gavel. I think it was a definite February highlight. I am speaking of the Land Cruise led by Fleet Captain of Power R.J. Basil that was held on Saturday, February 16. R.J. got a bus and 40 members and/or prospective members, and took us on a winery tour of the North Coast. At this writing, I think I can assure all of you that a good time was had by all, save for maybe a couple of members who maybe werent feeling so good upon our return. Any way you slice it, it was just a hoot! May I remind you again of Article II of the PCYC ConstitutionObject and Purpose of the Club shall be the encouragement of boating, swimming, other sports and amusements and the promotion of social relations among its members. I would say the Land Cruise qualified. Thanks again to Past Commodore John Stefano for another delicious Spaghetti Dinner & fundraiser for the PCYC Junior Sailing Program held on February 15. We will hold Punxatawny Phil to account! He did NOT see his shadow on February 2, and therefore we WILL have an early spring! In March, we will welcome spring with three Friday Night Snacks on March 1, 8, and 29. There is the Mens Stag on Wednesday, March 6, and March Membership Meeting on Thursday, March 7 (please attend). We will also have a St. Patricks Day Bar Party on Saturday, March 16, the Captains Perch Fundraiser for Junior Sailing on Friday, March 22, a March Madness Snacks on Saturday, March 23, and the Childrens Easter Party on Saturday, March 30. Lots of activities at YOUR clubso join in the fun! I am also sad to report that there are a few of you out there who have either neglected to pay your dues or your dockage for 2013. You know who you are. In order for PCYC to run efficiently, we need your help in getting us your payments as soon as possible. We are in excellent financial shape, but wrapping up those dues payments in particular will help us get the 2013-14 Yearbook out sooner and with accurate member info. Thank you. John Schaffner

The Burgee. Every Yacht Club in the world is represented by a flag known as a Burgee. It is a flag not unlike the flags that have led troops into battle. The burgee you see is the true colors of Port Clinton Yacht Club. This year as your Commodore, I intend to feature the PCYC Burgee at every opportunity. My hope is that all members and family will look to our burgee and view it with pride. It is our emblem of excellence. It is emblematic of what makes Port Clinton Yacht Club the finest Yacht Club in the Great Lakes. I have visited many yacht clubs throughout the Great Lakes, and as far away as Florida and Hawaii. They are all fine and wonderful facilities with fine ladies and gentlemen as their representatives. But, I have found none as nice as Port Clinton Yacht Club. So view YOUR burgee with pride. FLY your burgee with pride. Spring approaches. At this writing, I am sad to report that Past

s Rear Perspective
Hope all of you are surviving the winter weather roller coaster! That wish is mainly for those of us who didnt go south of course..oh well, it will be over soon, March is usually our transitional month. I would like to discuss a housekeeping issue. We have a beautiful club inside and out. As most should understand, our facilities are expensive to maintain, clean and update. Those services and updates are paid for with club funds (your money). The Board takes spending money on these items very seriously and it is disheartening to learn when new or updated things are disrespected. The latest example of this is the Kids Activity Room. I happened to be at the club one Saturday in February and witnessed the condition of the room. It appeared as if a popcorn fight had occurred because the carpet was littered with it. There were also pop cans on the floor and food plates on tables. I thought maybe this was an isolated incident so I asked our Facilities Mgr. and unfortunately his response was not favorable. I could go on but its really not that difficult. If you brought kids, keep an eye on them; if they make a mess, be sure it gets cleaned up; basic personal responsibility. There is another topic I would like to remind members about, both new and seasoned, and that is your committee assignment responsibility. This is one of the basics of our club but every year the Social Chair is faced with multiple calls of no shows. This usually causes a domino effect that impacts many people, causes stress to your fellow members and is normally very avoidable. So please, know your committee assignment and have some fun too! We understand there are times when scheduling conflicts happen but the rule is simple; If you cannot make your obliga-

tion, then you need to find the replacement and if you miss an assignment, you will be re-assigned to another committee. The Facilities Manager has informed me that a used commercial freezer has been bought for the kitchen. This will provide much needed freezer space for the club. Eric has also installed a new utility pole across from the maintenance garage. The previous one was a casualty of hurricane Sandy. Some additional storm sewer work was also completed to help get water off the asphalt. We continue to review several projects for the upcoming year. As they become more solid I will be looking for those volunteers.

Fleet Captain of Sail

Winter is a busy time for the Junior Sail Fleet. Junior Sailors love the art: A special thank you goes out to Mary Hetrick for organizing the Art Expo at the PCYC and our member artists who showed off their talents and helped our sailing program. Money received for displaying artwork on the tables and percentages of sales were donated to the Junior Sailor program. Spaghetti Fundraiser was a success: Thanks again to PC John Stefano and Race Team Coordinator Vince Leon. PC John headed led the Spaghetti crew, created the sauce while Mayor Leon made a centuries old family meatball recipe. Junior Sailing Perch Fundraiser: Upcoming Perch Dinner Fundraiser March 22nd, 5:30pm-7:30pm will be our annual Perch dinner fundraiser. Along with the Perch Platters, Perch Sandwiches and French Fries, we will once again be spoiled with the now famous Bergman Lobster Bisque.
