January 22, 1976 COMPRESSOR, SPUR ADAPTER GEARSRAFT BEARING INNER RACE--ADD PLANNING INFORMATION: EFFECTIVITY: All Series II compressor (engine) assemblies prior to the following compressor (engine) serial numbers: Model 250-C20 250-C20B 250-B17 250-B17B REASON: DESCRIPTION: Compressor Serial No. CAC 38840 CAC 33262 CAC 60062 CAC 80177 Corresponding Engine Serial No. CAE 823191 CAE 830260 CAE 870060 CAE 880176
To provide an improved bearing journa1 for the 2 l/2 bearing. The 0. D. of the spur adapter gearshaft currently serves as the inner race for the 2 l/2 bearing. Existing spur adapter gearshafts will be reworked by machining away the journal area and installing an interference fit separable inner race made of M50 (AMS 6490) steel. The resuiting spur adapter gearshaft assembly is completely interchangeable with the original spur adapter gearshaft.
COMPLIANCE:
It is recommended that this bulletin be accomplished at next overhaul following availability of parts, Revision No. 1 February 25, 1977

ACCOMPLISHMENT I.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Inspect the Spur Adapter Gearshaft, P/N 6851537, 6876360 or 6890480 to make sure that it passes Overhaul Manual requirements in all areas except the 2 l/2 bearing journal. a. Wear is acceptable on the 2 l/2 bearing journal since that surface will be removed during rework. b. Prior to machining transfer the serial number identification as shown in Figure 2.

Machine the 0. D. of the 2 l/2 bearing journal as shown in Figure 2. Reidentify the reworked Spur Adapter Gearshaft as P/N 6891626 per AS 478-2Dl as shown in Figure 2. Heat an Inner Bearing Race, P/N 6890483, to 600+50F. freeze the shaft. Do not

Install the inner race upon the spur adapter gearshaft to the 0.005 maximum gap dimension shown in Figure 3. After the temperature of the parts stabilizes, check the 0. D, of the bearing race for 0.8850 - 0.8844 diameter. If this dimension is not met, do not machine the bearing journal. Remove the race and check the detail dimensions. The parts have been dimensioned so that journal machining will not be required. Identify the assembly as: ASSY 6891625 per AS 478-2Dl at the location shown in Figure 3. Record compliance with 250-C20/C20B CEB-1076 or 250-Bl?/B17B TP CEB-1050 in the Compressor Assembly (blue pages) Modification Record, Part III of the Engine Log Book.
