Background history of the organisation The sixth form college Solihull was founded in 1974; the college was

specifically opened to provide further education for students aged 16-19. The college is situated on the outskirts of Solihull with a backdrop of parkland, which is thought to provide a relaxing setting for students to study; The college provides further education for the borough of Solihull but also recruits a third of its students 2,200 students from south Birmingham who are from areas of high social, economic and educational deprivation. They only tend to take on students who have achieved five or more GCSEs at A* to C and Solihull is well above the national average with Birmingham below average to achieving this, according to statistics more than a quarter of students are of minority ethnic heritage, which is in actual above the figure for the local area of Solihull, it is believed that the Pakistani Heritage is the largest group of minority ethnic where students come from.

Background history of the organisation The college is run in a way where they have people of the board who are generally local business mans and parents of students in some cases, then we have the current principle put in place who Is Paul Ashdown , next they have two vice principals (Janice Hamilton and Martin Sullivan) followed by three assistant principals and three directors of teaching and learning who have been allocated the roles in different divisions such as A,B,C, lastly they have directors of teaching and learning who support students. Alumni/past students The college is very proud of having student who have gone onto making a real good impression in the real world, their alumni consists of the likes of Shefali Chowdury who played a part in the hit Films Harry Potter, Lucy Davis who stars in the office, Justin King CEO of Sainsburys and many more.

Additional facilities The facilities the sixth form college, Solihull has is a refectory for all students to hang out together during their break and lunch times and with a food court present they can purchase hot or cold food, there is also a coffee bar. As for learning facilities they have an internet caf with computers and desks to work on in groups as well as library where you can work in silence and revise, with a learning centre next to it to work on computers, there is a dance studio on site for students to participate in dance workshop activities and also work towards there dance A level, there is also a drama studio and music facilities available,

loads of classrooms with great facilities with white boards fitted, for sports activities there is a large number of green spaces available and also a sports hall for these to take place.

Courses offered by SSFC The college has to offer a number of courses which are at A Level, some which you may not get to study at smaller schools and colleges, to study an A level programme students would need to select 4 subject which they wish to study and normally if they were to go on to second year of study they would drop and focus on three subjects, as well as A levels they offer currently 6 applied courses ranging from Business to sciences, whilst studying the BTEC extended Diploma can choose alongside an A level to complement their learning and overall giving them a variety of qualification to take with on to further education or training. If student were to pick an applied course they benefit from a career academy which helps students securing internships in sectors they wish to work in.

Student bodies/committees The student body is a diverse community, as their students come from different areas within the south of Birmingham and Solihull, each student at the college is allocated a coach who can guide them through their experience at the sixth form college Solihull, all the students attending the college are represented by a student council, the student council representative is the voice of the students and gets them across so that their time there is joyful and productive.

Conclusion The reason why I have carried out this research for different areas of the college is so that I know exactly what the organisation is about who their target audience is etc. by knowing this useful information I now can use it to produce a student magazine, to get this information I used various sources using the internet and Ofsted reports.
