INFORMATION SHEET FOR PARTICIPANTS

Using social media marketing to influence attitudes and awareness of active transport and lifestyle physical activity I would like to invite you to participate in this original postgraduate research project from March and will finish in May 2013. You should only participate if you want to; choosing not to take part will not disadvantage you in any way. Before you decide whether you want to take part, it is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what your participation will involve. Please take time to read the following information carefully and discuss it with others if you wish. Ask us if there is anything that is not clear or if you would like more information. This research is to investigate how social media marketing can affect the awareness of and participation in active transport and lifestyle physical activity. Posts in this campaign are about participation in physical activity incorporated into daily routine. We are recruiting users of the social media sites Facebook and Twitter who are over 18 and interested in sharing ideas of how to increase physical activity levels. Submitting posts, retweeting and any other interaction in this campaign is signifying your consent to your contributions being used, however if you would like to withdraw, please delete your comment and message me by 12pm on the Friday after you have made your post (if the post has been made after 12pm on a Friday, you will have up to 12pm the following Friday) and we will not use you data in the research or analysis. I will guarantee anonymity, please feel free to use an alias or post using your correct name, all data will be confidential in my publication of results. I will make the summary of results available via Twitter and Facebook in September 2013. Please be reminded that by joining this group (or following this campaign on Twitter this will be tailored for the platform), you are giving your consent to be included in this study and any interaction provided by you may be included in the analysis. Please read this form after you have read the Information Sheet, by following this campaign you are giving your consent for your posts to be used in this study. The person organising the research must explain the project to you before you agree to take part. If you have any questions arising from the Information Sheet or explanation already given to you, please ask the researcher before you decide whether to join in. You will be given a copy of this Consent Form to keep and refer to at any time.

I understand that if I decide at any time during the research that I no longer wish to participate in this project, I can notify the researchers involved and withdraw from it immediately without giving any reason. Furthermore, I understand that I will be able to withdraw my data up to the point of publication I consent to the processing of my personal information for the purposes explained to me. I understand that such information will be handled in accordance with the terms of the UK Data Protection Act 1998.
