TruFlow systems enhance process control and production efficiency through reduced variation, improving product quality.
Adhesive Variation Management

Pressure-fed applicators are a low-initial-investment, economical adhesive dispensing technology. An adhesive melter employs a metering pump to deliver adhesive to the application point. Variations in pump pressure, clogged nozzles or damaged dispensing modules can cause adhesive use and product quality to vary, especially during line ramp up. Metering slice applicators provide superior performance and flexibility. Direct-mounted, motor-driven gear pumps can control each adhesive stream for applications that demand maximum pattern versatility. These applicators deliver excellent return on their higher initial investment and required system integration by dramatically reducing adhesive variation. TruFlow applicators are intermediate-level solution that incorporates some of the many benefits of high-performance metering applicators, but at lower cost and with simpler system integration. Passive-driven gears divide adhesive into individual streams that are less subject to cross-web variation. A closed-loop encoder feedback signal to the melter reduces ramp up variation. Detection and indication of damaged or clogged components is automatic.

TruFlow Monitors and Controls

TruFlow Applicators

Configurable TruFlow monitors and controls reduce adhesive volume variation during ramp up and steady-state operation. Adhesive add-on control is maximized by monitoring and feedback of dispensing, application pressure and encoder pulses, proportional to line speed. Individual adhesive streams at each application point are metered and monitored, allowing reduced adhesive use. Monitor and control features include: n Adjustable, pre-set warnings and alarms stop production if dispensing deviates beyond defined upper or lower dispensing limits.

In continuous and intermittent, spray and slot-nozzle dispensing, a passive gear pump separates adhesive flow into up to eight streams. Each stream supplies up to three dispensing modules. Optional, independent flow-metered streams for each module can further reduce cross-web and add-on variation. The compact, modular design without applicator motors and motor drives simplifies system set up and integration. An integrated air heater improves adhesive temperature control and pattern consistency while reducing energy use. A uniform thermal profile provides better heat distribution and process repeatability. Large internal flow paths enhance add-on accuracy. An angled manifold reduces air turbulence, expands web-routing options and improves pattern stability. TruFlow applicators are compatible with Nordson intermittent SpeedCoat and continuous TrueCoat modules, UM25 and UM50 modules and CF, Summit, SureWrap, Control Coat, and Signature spray nozzles.

Detection of damaged dispensing modules. Recording output by individual product, time/day/shift, or total dispensed, eliminates random-sample inspection errors. Fieldbus connectivity options are available for data analysis. A choice of line-speed inputs, pressure sensor and analog output types, reduce system setup and changeover time. Simple programming using an optional touch-screen control panel, allows monitoring of up to eight encoder-feedback channels.

TruFlow Dividers

Dividers enhance dispensing by separating one adhesive stream into 2, 3, 4, 6, or 8 independent, flow-metered streams, allowing a single melter to supply multiple applications, reducing equipment, parts and inventory costs. Symmetrical adhesive application on the same product, such as operator-side and drive-side elastic attachment, is easily achievable.

Increasing flow-metered delivery points and moving them closer to the dispensing modules reduces cross-web and add-on variation to less than 5-percent, over the same hydraulic flow range, minimizing adhesive use. A choice of direct-mount or remote-mount, closed-loop encoders signal the adhesive melter, reducing adhesive variation during line-speed ramp up and ramp down for better product quality, consistency and less scrap.
