FUNFUN-raising
Attention Squadron 47!!! Extraordinary Fundraising Opportunity with Everyday Purchases!
This is so simple! eScrip works with merchants to contribute to Squadron 47 each time you shop at no cost to you!

Here's How it Works:

Register any one or all of your existing grocery loyalty, debit and credit cards for use in the program. eScrips privacy policy protects your cards and they dont sell information. Based on your purchases using the cards you have registered, participating merchants will contribute a percentage of sales to Squadron 47 . Your purchases are tracked and available to you online, allowing you to see just how much you are earning on your child's behalf. Squadron 47 will receive an electronic deposit into its bank account every month which includes contributions from all of our participating supporters.

Heres What You Do:

Go to www.escrip.com, click on sign-up, and enter your info. Thats it! No selling candy, no buying candy, no harassing co-workers and family! :) Its all automatic now!

Heres How We Will Spend the Money:

All squadron and cadet activities are paid for with donations from members, parents, or charges to the cadets. The more money donated through eScrip, the more activities we can have and not have to charge cadets themselves. A win-win situation! Although we are an auxiliary of the United States Air Force, Civil Air Patrol squadrons do not receive money from USAF for operating costs or activities, other than for reimbursement for aircraft expenses. Please take a few minutes to visit www.escrip.com and sign up now! Your wallet and your squadron will thank you later

Follow Your Dreams

Follow your dreams You can reach your goals, Im living proof. - Eric Cartman

Here is living proof you dont have to decide between being a pilot and a doctor. Hes both.
1LT James Zimmerman, MD, Flight Surgeon, USN, came in to speak about his experiences in the Navy and told his story about how he chose not to decide between being a doctor and being a pilot. He became both. He delivered a candid and well-crafted lecture about the importance of staying in school, doing your best, and it will all pay off. Joining the military allows you to pursue both tracks in close succession. The cadets seemed enthralled and he had a flurry of questions at the end. Dr. Zimmerman is a current role model of military duty and his stories are fresh and recent. He returned from his most recent deployment last November. He has unique perspective on the current war, which, if it continues, our current CAP cadets will be involved with, should they join when they are older. Our current cadets are at that perfect age where they will begin deciding where their priorities lie. We hope Dr. Zimmerman was able to convince them that wherever their dreams may lead them, that the path is always paved early, with a good education and a will to succeed. Thank you, Dr. Zimmerman, for sharing your incredible journey with the cadets!

Challenge Yourself
The Real World Design Challenge (RWDC)
is an annual competition that provides high school students, grades 9-12, the opportunity to work on real world engineering challenges in a team environment. Each year, student teams will be asked to address a challenge that confronts our nation's leading industries. Students will utilize professional engineering software to develop their solutions and will also generate presentations that convincingly demonstrate the value of their solutions. The RWDC provides students with opportunities to apply the lessons of the classroom to the technical problems that are being faced in the workplace. REAL PROBLEMS - Provides a practical application of classroom curriculum REAL TOOLS - Inspires students by showing them what is at their fingertips REAL ROLES - Requires teamwork, leadership and problem solving skills REAL DESIGNS - Fosters creativity, critical thinking, and innovation REAL CONTRIBUTIONS - Students can make a difference To find out more about this years challenge, go to www.realworlddesignchallenge.org The Spaatz Association Aerospace Leadership Scholarship
Are you a Civil Air Patrol cadet who: Earned your Mitchell Award,, Earned your Solo Wings in a powered aircraft, Maintains at least a 3.0 GPA (normalized), and has not received or been selected for a similar scholarship or grant? Then you are eligible to apply for The Spaatz Association Aerospace Leadership Scholarship!!! The scholarship is intended to be used primarily to bring a cadet from solo to his/her private pilot's license. A limited amount of the scholarship may also be used to attend a CAP leadership activity, or to serve in a leadership position at a suitable CAP activity. The scholarship must be used within one year of awarding and while the winner is still an active cadet in good standing. You may apply by submitting: A resume of your CAP career; Proof of academic standing; 3 letters of recommendation: one from your Squadron Commander or Deputy for Cadets, one from your flight instructor, and one from an individual of your choice; No more than 2 written pages explaining: 1) What you've done for the Civil Air Patrol, 2) What the scholarship will be used for, and 3) How your use of the scholarship will benefit the Civil Air Patrol in the future; A full-length picture in CAP uniform, preferably service dress, but not a utility uniform. ***Note: This is not a CAP scholarship. You must mail your application by 30 September 2011. Or, if you can scan your picture into a 256-color jpeg or gif image, you may email your package here. If you create one large pdf file, do not put the picture in the pdf. The scholarship will be awarded at the Spaatz Association Winter Dinner which occurs coincident with the CAP Winter Board meeting, usually in early March. Late applications will not be accepted! However, there is no reason to send it by expensive overnight mail. Also, please do not send it with a signature required at my end. With my work schedule, it is very difficult for me to pick up applications that require me to sign for them at the post office. As long as your application is postmarked by 30 September, that is good enough. Also, you must include an email address or phone number in case we need to contact you. Send to:
