Leveraging Control Technology to Improve Energy Performance

Emersons Industrial Energy Consulting Team
The Emerson Industrial Energy consulting team, part of the Industry Solutions Group, is focused on assisting clients with improving the performance of energy processes. Specifically, the team especially works with industrial power and utility processes such as boilers, steam distribution, electric generation and distribution, compressors, chillers, and overall site energy management. The energy group resolves reliability and stability problems and assists with projects that lower energy costs for client businesses.

Controls people with energy process backgrounds.

The Industrial Energy Group utilizes instrumentation and control technology as a tool to improve energy business results. The consultants on the team are successful in large part due to the extensive energy process experience that they possess. Some have worked for boiler companies, some have been employed in plants and mills, all have many years of industrial energy process background. The group knows how technology can be used for energy process improvement.

A holistic approach to process improvement

Having both process and control technology backgrounds allows the Emerson Industrial Energy Group to approach process improvement in a holistic manner. Emerson understands that control optimization technology cannot deliver full results if process and mechanical issues severely limit performance. At the same time, it is understood that few processes operate ideally if automatic and optimized control technology is not in place. Emerson works to enhance all aspects of the process to deliver the highest possible business results.

Building optimization on a solid platform

Emerson builds optimization of energy processes on a solid platform. With process and mechanical issues resolved to the degree that makes business sense, this then involves ensuring that the proper measurement and actuating devices are in place. You cant control (or optimize) what you cant measure or actuate!

Emersons vision for optimized control

The Emerson vision of optimized control involves two layers of functionality: Full automatic Single Knob advanced regulatory control Math and/or model based unit optimization solution

Minimum target >95% of time on automatic control

Emersons Energy Optimization Suite

The Emerson Industrial Energy Group provides optimization solutions to improve the reliability, stability, and economic

performance of power and utility processes. Each of these solutions is tailored to the unique challenges of the industrial powerhouse including such things as continually varying loads, changing utility rates, multiple fuels, and alternate/waste fuels.

What is Single Knob control?

Emerson implements a layer of advanced coordinated regulatory control for energy processes that makes it easy to run in automatic. Single Knob provides: Single input by operations establishes process rate All equipment, process, and operating (i.e. environmental) constraints are built in Coordinated rate/load change Bumpless, balanceless manual/auto transfer
