Importance of Trees Trees are essential to our world and offer a wide range of benefits to our envir onment.

The list of benefits that Trees provide is so long that one might believe its ex aggeration, but it is not. Reduced pollution, erosion control, wildlife habitat, energy saving & enhanced human comfort are all well known long term consequence s of Tree Planting. Planting Trees is one of the cheapest and most effective ways to bring about wid espread improvement in the environment & the quality of life of an area. Even in the areas with over concreted land & water shortage of a mega polis like Delhi, plants & Trees play a huge rate n regulating temperature and air quality.

The benefits from these trees spread far beyond villages to our homes in Cities, School and Communities as well. Trees remove from the global atmosphere great q uantities of carbon dioxide, the major Green House Gas responsible for global clim ate changes. Trees play a major role in purifying the air we breathe. The air is filtered by the Trees and returned to the atmosphere at the time of photosynthesis. Trees pr ovide us with oxygen, which is essential for the existence of life, WITHOUT TREES THERE WOULD BE NO LIFE . The dust particles & other pollutants, which causes majo r diseases like asthma and lung cancer, get stuck on the leaves of the trees res ulting in fresh air reaching us. Rain then washes the pollutants to the ground. Leaves absorb pollutants such as Ozone, Carbon monoxide, Carbon dioxide and Sulp hur dioxide and give off oxygen. Trees acts as a sound barrier & provides protection against crowding & noise pol lution without which these can lead to mental fatigue & stress. A part of water taken by plants is given out by the leaves in the form of water vapour by a process called transpiration. These vapour then form clouds resultin g in rain. The downward fall of rain, sleet & hail is initially absorbed or deflected by tr ees, which provides some protections for people, pets & buildings. Trees interce pt water, store some of it & reduce storm runoff & the possibility of flooding. Temperature in the vicinity of trees is cooler than that away from trees. The la rger the trees the greater the cooling. By using trees in the cities, we are abl e to moderate the heat island effect cause by pavement & buildings in commercial areas. We like trees around us because they make life more pleasant. Most of us respond to the presence of Trees beyond simply observing their beauty. We feel serene, peaceful, restful & tranquil in a grove of Trees.
