Paraffin Wax

Introduction Chemical Plus sal is the sole agent and distributor for Sasol Wax in Lebanon. Paraffin wax is a blend of n-alkanes (straight carbon chains), isoalkanes (branched carbon chains) and cyclo-alkanes (ring structures), with chain length ranging from C20 to C40 and melting point from 52-74oC Paraffin wax is made from the following raw materials: crude oils, oil sand, shale or slate, brown coal. Distillation of raw materials produces solvent, fuel and gas oil. Vacuum distillation of the residue results in lube and process oil which by de-waxing render to slack wax. De-oiling, hydrogenation and blending of slack wax produce: fully and semi refined, micro and macrocrystalline paraffin waxes in different forms: slab, prill and pastilles. Depending on its chemical and physical properties, paraffin wax has applications in the following fields: Candle Industry Due to its burning properties, paraffin wax is the major raw material used in the production of candles. Waxes are available in a wide range of melting points suitable for the different kind of candles and the different manufacturing processes: Tea lights. Grave lights and sanctuary lights. Several grades are suitable for rubber and tires industries diversified by their: Nature: Micro and macrocrystalline Melting Point Range: 52 74oC Oil Content Range: 0 15% Color: White, yellowish, off-white and brown Application Paraffin wax acts as antiozonants, by migration to the surface it forms a thin protective layer insuring protection against ozone attack and brittleness. N-paraffins have a greater migration tendency compared to iso-paraffins. Due to their high n-paraffin content, Paraffin Wax gives rapid protection for newly produced goods. As for Microcrystalline Wax, having high molecular weight in iso-paraffins, It guarantees slow release and long lasting protection. The delicately formulated balance between paraffin waxes and microcrystalline waxes guarantees the control of migration insuring the quick acting and long lasting. Paraffin wax is used as a carrier for additional protective chemicals. Paraffin wax is used a mold release agent, anti aging agent, plasticizer and lubricant in the rubber and tire industry.
