Weather Indonesia enjoys an entirely tropical climate. The weather is generally warm all year round with the winds being moderate. Currency Indonesia uses a local currency that is called the Indonesian Rupiah. Location Indonesia is located just beyond the equator, lying between the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean on the Southeast Asian region. The People Indonesian people are mostly friendly to foreigners. But just like any other people, they can go either way. The ethnic groups of Indonesia are Javanese, Sudanese, and Madurese. Exports The major exports of Indonesia include gas and oil, plywood, textile, rubber, and electrical appliances. Tourism Tourism is one of the key industries of Indonesia as it is a nation that is rich in culture, tradition, religion, and of course, wonderful beaches. Resorts The beach resorts to explore in Indonesia are the five star resorts in either Bali or Jakarta. The Bintan Resorts is also a good place to visit, although not as popular as the ones in the two previously stated regions. Beaches Mountains. The Bali beaches are very hot and mostly frequented to by foreigners. But generally Indonesia is surrounded by lots of them and the list include Nusa Dua, Gili Trawangan, Nusa Lembongan, Lombok, Bintan, Amed, Jimbaran, Canggu, Tanjung Benoa, and Seminyak. Mountains and volcanoes also lace the country. Lakes Being an island nation, there are bountiful lakes in Indonesia too. As a matter of fact, there are over 500 natural lakes and 100 reservoirs in the country. The largest lake in Indonesia and in the rest of Southeast Asia is Lake Toba, which is located in Sumatra. Industry Agriculture and the manufacturing sector are the biggest industries in Indonesia. Right now, Indonesia boasts of having the biggest economy in the entire Southeast Asian region. History The history of Indonesia can be traced back to the first men. Their race started from the Austronesian people who migrated to the island from Taiwan. When trade flourished in the region, Buddhism and Hinduism spread throughout the archipelago. Right now, most of the people in the area are Muslims. Indonesia has strong links with India and China before. The Dutch primarily controlled Indonesia until they fully gained their independence following the Indonesian National Revolution. Famous People Some of the world famous Indonesians are Gajah Mada, a military leader; Hayam Wuruk, a Javanese King, Chairil Anwar, an Indonesian poet and writer; and Rudy Hartono Kurniawan, a famous badminton player. Topography and Geography The archipelago of Indonesia is composed of 17,508 islands but only 6,000 of them are inhabited. The highest peak is the Puncak Jaya in Papua. The island is located on the equator and has many mountains and volcanoes. Towns & Cities Jakarta is the city capital of Indonesia. The other major cities are Bali, Jambi, and Bengkulu.
