JOHOR BARU: A motorist was killed in an accident that involved two cars and a motorcycle. Mohd Irwan Rasip, 32, died at the scene of the accident at KM15 of the Kota TinggiJohor Baru road, near here. He was said to have been driving from Kota Tinggi when the tragedy occurred at about 7.40am yesterday. Police have yet to identify one of the injured victims, who was badly burned in the mishap and has been admitted to the Sultan Ismail Hospital. All the documents he was carrying were destroyed in the accident, Seri Alam OCPD Supt Roslan Zainuddin said. The other injured victim was motorcyclist Abu Bakar Sidek, in his 20s, who had been admitted into the same hospital for cuts and injuries. Initial investigations showed the yet-to-be-identified man was driving his Proton Persona at high speed and was coming from the opposite direction as Mohd Irwan. He apparently lost control of his vehicle before crashing it into the other car, Supt Roslan said, adding that the Persona also collided with Abu Bakars bike.

Some 24-hours after the heist police had rounded up 12 suspects including the security guards who were assigned to carry the money and a ATM technician who reported the robbery. It is, however, not known if police had recovered the money. The suspects, in their 20s and 30s, were picked-up at various locations in Johor Baru and Seri Alam. The incident occurred at about 9.30am when the van belonging to Safeguards G4S Sdn Bhd arrived at the Tesco hypermarket to replenish the ATMs. It was learnt that four security guards went into the hypermarket, leaving the driver alone in the van. The van driver later told police he was assaulted by two men who was wearing security guard uniforms. They allegedly used the electric baton on him before pulling him out of the van and driving off with the money. The guards in the hypermarket tried to give chase after a passer-by raised the alarm than the van had been hijacked. Johor criminal investigations department chief Datuk Amer Awal said they sent out an allpoints-bulletin on the van and set up roadblocks at various points in the state. Amer confirmed that several suspects have been picked up to facilitate investigations. Police are now studying recordings from the closed-circuit television cameras. Police have not discounted the possibility that the heist was an inside job.
