Polygyny As A Christian Family Ministry To Widows & Needy Women - Deut 25:5; 1 Corinthians 7:8,9; 1 Timothy 5:14; James

1:27 - - Edited by Tyler & Tyler Posts & Publications, 3/2/13 http://biblicalmarriagepolygyny.yuku.com/topic/186/Polygyny-Christian-FamilyMinistry-Widows-Needy-Women#.UTLs6KXqEqY; https://www.facebook.com/groups/2648256332/doc/10151289814896333/; https://www.facebook.com/groups/6382095167/doc/10151277962830168/; https://www.facebook.com/groups/107582071823/doc/10151352342201824/; https://www.facebook.com/groups/113268338785419/doc/346524345459816/ I believe there is a Biblical Christian ministry to the genuinely Christian widows and especially to the genuinely Christian wives whose husbands have been martyred or died in Christian service. As I was watching Mel Gibson's The Passion of Christ, I was reminded of Jesus' will re the care of widows. Mary was already a widow, and she had other sons, but Jesus knew that only John would live long enough to take effective care of Mary and so He declared John to be Mary's son and "guardian" even though she had other sons. This is a part of the James 1:27 ministry. ***James 1:27 Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to look after [bereaved, parentless, orphaned (3737)] children and women deprived of husbands (5503) in their distress and to keep oneself unstained by the world. <<(Strong's 3737) ojrfano>v, or-fan-os; of uncertain affinity; bereaved (orphan), i.e. parentless: comfortless, fatherless. <<(Strong's 5503) ch>ra, khay-rah; the idea of deficiency; a widow (as lacking a husband), literal or figurative: widow. <<Thayer's Lexicon: 1) a widow, 2) metaph. a city stripped of its inhabitants and riches is represented under the figure of a widow http://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexicon/lexicon.cfm?Strongs=G5503&t=KJV <<Hebrew OT equivalent: (H488) 'almanah, a widow, of a state bereft of its king, desolate; (H491) 'almanuwth, widowhood, Israel bereft of its land http://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexicon/Lexicon.cfm?strongs=H490 http://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexicon/Lexicon.cfm?strongs=H491 <<Thayer and Arndt-Gingrich Greek Lexicons: "bereft woman", i.e. deprived of or robbed of a husband, and so lacking a needed husband http://helpmewithbiblestudy.org/13reference/helps_BauerArndtGingrichGreekIndex .aspx SO WE SEE INCLUDED ANY CHILD LACKING A PARENT AND ANY WOMAN STRIPPED, DEPRIVED &/OR ROBBED OF HER HUSBAND, INCLUDING WOMEN ABANDONED BY THEIR HUSBANDS OR BY THE FATHERS OF THEIR CHILDREN. I believe that Deut 25:1-10 is part of t he James 1:27 commission and ministry. Please note that in none of the translations below is it stated the it applies only to single/unmarried brothers-in-law, that the brother could be already married and serves his widowed sister-in-law as a polygynist. An often forgotten point here is that the brother-in-law's wife has no say in the matter, and so is expected to join her husband in this marital ministry to her widowed sister-in-law, doing it with

kind Love as if she were doing it for Christ.. ***Deut 25:5 If brothers live together, and one of them dies childless, his widow is not to marry someone unrelated to him; her husbands brother is to go to her and perform the duty of a brother-in-law by marrying her. CJB ***Deut 25:5 When brothers live on the same property and one of them dies without a son, the wife of the dead man may not marry a stranger outside the family. Her brother-in-law is to take her as his wife, have sexual relations with her, and perform the duty of a brother-in-law for her. HCSB ***Deut 25:5 . . . her brother-in-law shall have sex with her,[k] and he shall take her to himself[l] as a wife, and he shall perform his duty as a brother-in-law with respect to her. LEXHAM ***Deut 25:5 If achim dwell together, and one of them die, and ben ain lo (have no child), the eshet hamet (wife of the dead) shall not marry outside unto an ish zar (strange man); her yevam (deceased husbands brother) shall go in unto her, and take her to him as a wife, and perform the levirate marriage. Orthodox Jewish Bible (OJB)

The younger [premenopause?] widows are under Spirit's counsel to marry (1 Timothy 5:14 "Therefore, I want younger [widows] to marry, have children, manage their households, and give the adversary no opportunity to accuse us."). The widows and abandoned mothers come under God's command to marry if they are not consistently succeeding in abstaining from sex sin (1 Cor 7:8 Now to the unmarried and to the widows I say that it is good for them if they remain single, as I am. 9 But if they are not practicing self-control [by consistently abstaining from sex sin], they should marry; for it is better to marry than to burn <with sexual passion>.)

The command to marry can override the instructions to keep one's polygyny below the public radar. When the widow or abandoned mother come under command to marry, and the only way to marry is a not-so-privately-discrete polygyny, they should marry polygynously even if brethren "stumble" over it. If they aren't able to keep their polygyny below the public radar, they need to remember Rom 14:1, i.e. to be hospitable and friendly with those whose faith is too weak to accept Biblical Christian polygyny, but don't argue or quarrel with them over polygyny. Remember the Word in 2 Tim 2:24-26.

It helps to remember that monogynous Christians who oppose Christian polygyny are snared to their own hurt and need Loving deliverance. The sad truth is that if a widow or abandoned mother who marries polygnously under command/instructions in the Word - then begins to suffer persecution that is harmful or unbearable, she should flee to a safer place/community as instructed in Matthew 10:23. The Christian polygynous brother who has followed the spirit of Deut 25:5 and 1 John 3:16-18 and polygynously married the under-command-tomarry widow or abandoned mother - that brother would of course flee to safety with his persecuted mate.

It is a spiritual tragedy that most Christian communities around the world prefer to let the young widows and the abandoned mothers who are burning with sexual

passion and/or are not successfully & consistently abstaining from sex sin - to let them go on "burning" or stumbling into sex sin rather than encourage them to marry a godly Christian brother in polygyny. In the same way it is a spiritual tragedy for Christian communities to hinder, discourage or persecute godly Christian brothers who might be led by James 1:27; 1 Tim 5:14; 1 Cor 7:8,9; Deut 25:5 and 1 John 3:16-18 to want to polygynously meet the needs of "undercommand-to-marry" widows or abandoned mothers. No wonder the "public and incorporated" Christian churches today are so Spiritually bankrupt, powerless and ineffective.

I don't believe Father can bless Christian communities that prefer to keep their own traditions rather than effectively deal with the real needs of widows and abandoned mothers. They fall short of the "true religion" of James 1:27. Let me throw in a By The Way here. If a polygynous brother or sister is looking for a wife, one of the best places/ways to find such a wife is to obey James 1:27 and 1 John 3:16-18 with regard to Christian widows and abandoned mothers. I did that and a widow became one of my ladies, and an abandoned mother became another of my ladies.

Madan, Martin, 1726-1790 Texts Madan, Martin, son of Colonel Martin Madan, and brother of Dr. Spencer Madan, sometime Bishop of Peterborough, was born in 1726. He was to have qualified for the Bar, but through a sermon by J. Wesley on the words "Prepare to meet thy God," the whole current of his life was changed. After some difficulty he received Holy Orders, and subsequently founded and became chaplain of the Lock Hospital, Hyde Park Corner. He was popular as a preacher, and had no inconsiderable reputation as a musical composer. He ceased preaching on the publication of his work Thelyphthora, in which he advocated the practice of polygamy. He died in 1790. He published A Commentary on the Articles of the Church of England; A Treatise on the Christian Faith, &c, and: http://www.hymnary.org/person/Madan_Mhttp://www.hymnary.org/person/Madan_ M

"Martain Madan founded and worked as Chaplin of locks women's hospital in London for a couple decades before he wrote his work. The title literally means 'on the female ruin'. He worked with women such as prostitutes, abandon women, and many others who would be considered the dregs of society for quite a long time. His work was addressed to the politicians of his day to make laws protecting women from such ill treatment, and he saw that mandatory monogamy worked out as the excuse for men to take a mistress and abandon her with child because. He also related it to prostitution and commented several times on the debauchery in the priesthood at various times (no, large scale sex scandles in the Church are not new by any stretch of the imagination)."

As Madan himself states "The only real and substantial difference between the ancient Jews and the Christians is this: The former took a plurality of women whom they maintained, protected and provided for agreeably to Gods word. The latter take a plurality of women and turn them out to ruin and destruction not only against Gods word but against every principle of justice and humanity. Or in other

words, if the jew took as many as he could maintain, the Christian ruins as many as he can debauch...We may boast of our marriage and condemn polygamy, but there is not a nation under heaven where polygamy is more openly practised than in this Christian country, for, though a man can marry but one at a time, he may have as great a variety as he pleases without ever marrying at all...To punish a poor deserted creature for being a prostitute, when it is put out of her power to force her seducer to provide for her as the divine law enjoins, is equally cruel and foolish, not very unlike the man who threw his child into a ditch and then beat him for being dirty."

MADAN IN DEFENSE OF POLYGYNY FOR THE GOOD OF WOMEN "In 1780 Madan raised a storm of opposition by the publication of his Thelyphthora, or A Treatise on Female Ruin, "(http://www.alibris.com/booksearch? qwork=12543819&matches=7&cm_sp=works*listing*title; http://www.alibris.com/booksearch? keyword=Thelyphthora+volume&mtype=B&hs.x=13&hs.y=7) "in which he advocated polygamy as the remedy for evils he deplored. His arguments were based mainly on scriptural authority; but his book caused many angry replies. He stopped preaching after publication of his work Thelyphthora, which advocated the practice of polygamy. After some difficulties, he took Holy Orders, and subsequently founded and became chaplain of the Lock Hospital, Hyde Park Corner, London.
