[NX8-HELP] DESIGN FEATURE

Dart
This function lets you add a dart feature along the intersection curve of two sets of faces.

First Face Set

Intersection Curve

Second Face Set

Dart

To create a dart feature you must specify:

Two sets of faces that intersect. A face set can be a single face or several faces. A base location point for the dart, either o a point along the intersection curve, or o a point at the intersection of the intersection curve and a plane. A depth. An angle. A radius.

By default the orientation of the dart is on a plane that is perpendicular to the intersection curve of the two sets of faces, but you can define the orientation yourself. Where do I find it? Toolbar FeatureDart Menu InsertDesign FeatureDart

Create a dart
1. Use the First Set selection step to select the first group of faces on which the dart is to be located. 2. Use the Second Set selection step to select the second group of faces on which the dart is to be located. Note Note that if there is more than one intersection between the two face sets you must select one over the other. 3. Use the Method selection step to specify how to locate the dart, either Along Edge or Position. For the Along Curve method: A base point and handle displays on the intersection curve between the two face sets. Drag the slider to move the base point anywhere along the intersection curve until you are satisfied with its location. The graphics display, face normal vector and the value in the Arclength field all update as you drag the base point handle along the curve. For the Position method: You can specify a location for the dart by either using a value for the WCS or Absolute X, Y, Z positions, or, by selecting a plane and if necessary an offset using the Location Plane and/or Orientation Plane selection steps. 4. Specify the Dimensions of the required dart, the angle, depth and radius. 5. Click OK or Apply to create the Dart feature.

Dart options
Dart Dialog Selection Steps First Set Lets you select the faces for the first set. You can select one or more faces for the face set. Second Set Lets you select the faces for the second set. You can select one or more faces for the face set. Location Curve Lets you select a location curve when there is more than one possible curve that you could select. Specifically, this would be with disconnected intersection curves between two face sets. All candidate location curves are highlighted. When you select a candidate location curve, a preview of the Dart feature displays and you are immediately advanced to the next selection step. Location Plane Lets you optionally specify the position of the dart feature relative to a plane or datum plane. Orientation Plane Lets you optionally select a plane for the orientation of the dart feature. Filter Lets you control what geometry is selectable. Options include: First Set and Second Set All Face Sheet body Location Plane and Orientation Plane All Plane Datum Plane Method The methods let you define the location of the dart. Along Curve This method lets you interactively define a base point for the dart anywhere on the intersection curve. The graphics display, face normal vector and the value in the Arclength field all update as you use the slider to drag the point along the curve. Position

[NX8-HELP] DESIGN FEATURE

This method lets you define an optional way to locate the dart. You can select a plane against which to locate the dart either as an

Absolute or WCS value, such as X = 5000, Y = 200 or Z = 250

or,

Location Plane.

The base point is at the intersection of the intersection curve and a selected plane. You can use the Location Plane selection step to select a plane and then specify an offset to position the corner feature from that plane. You can use the Orientation Plane selection step to select a plane to use in orienting the centerline of the Dart. If you locate the dart by either,

Absolute or WCS value Location plane

and you do not select a plane or datum plane, the orientation plane will be the plane used to define the location of the Dart. Arclength Arclength - Lets you enter a parameter value or expression for the base point on the intersection curve. You could also enter the arclength parameter value or expression in the on-screen input box. % Arclength - This option lets you switch the parameter for the point on intersection back and forth, from arclength to percentage of arclength. Percentage of arclength is between 0 and 100%. Dimensions The dimensions fields let you specify the size of the dart feature.

Angle (A) Depth (D) Radius (R) Preview Dart When enough parameters have been specified to create a possible dart, this option generates a preview of it in the graphics window. Use the preview to determine the correctness of your dart parameters before creating it.
