World Buses is based on a comprehensive industry study published by The Freedonia Group in November 2012. Reported findings represent the synthesis and analysis of data from various primary, secondary, macroeconomic, and demographic sources including: firms participating in the industry government/public agencies national, regional, and international non-governmental organizations trade associations and their publications the business and trade press The Freedonia Group Consensus Forecasts dated June 2012 the findings of other industry studies by The Freedonia Group. Specific sources are listed in the Resources section of this publication for reference and to facilitate further research.

Scope & Method


This report provides demand for and production of buses in units. Total demand is segmented in terms of: motor coaches transit buses other buses, including Type C buses used for school transportation. Excluded from this study are buses derived from light vehicles and minibuses designed to carry eight or fewer passengers in addition to the driver. In addition, total demand, total production, and the various segments are provided by region, segmented in terms of: North America Western Europe Asia/Pacific other regions. Total demand, the various segments, and production are sized at five-year intervals for historical years 2006 and 2011 with a forecast to 2016. Forecasts emanate from the identification and analysis of pertinent statistical relationships and other historical trends/events as well as their expected progression/impact over the forecast period. WORLD BUSES provided to illustrate product trends between reported years and to facilitate comparisons among the various segments. Demand forecasts are the illustration of underlying trends extrapolated to a particular year. However, as historical trends may demonstrate, demand in any given year, including a forecast year, may exhibit volatility and depart from the underlying trend.
