Scope & Method

The product scope of World Commercial Refrigeration Equipment is defined as refrigeration equipment designed for use in commercial markets such as the foodservice and retail sectors. Total demand and production are provided in US dollars at the manufacturers level, and demand is segmented in terms of: reach-ins and walk-ins (refrigerators and freezers) display cases beverage refrigeration equipment ice machines other products such as refrigerated vending machines, liquid chillers, and parts. Excluded from the scope of this report are air conditioning systems and all refrigeration equipment designed for residential use, as well as refrigeration equipment used in transportation systems. Total demand, the various segments, and production are sized at five-year intervals for historical years 2006 and 2011 with a forecast to 2016. Forecasts emanate from the identification and analysis of pertinent statistical relationships and other historical trends/events as well as their expected progression/impact over the forecast period. Five-year compound annual growth rates (CAGRs) are provided to illustrate product trends between reported years and to facilitate comparisons among the various segments. Demand forecasts are the illustration of underlying trends extrapolated to a particular year. To recognize such trends and for the sake of brevity, CAGRs may be expressed as annual growth in the narrative of this report. However, as historical trends may demonstrate, demand in any given year, including a forecast year, may exhibit volatility and depart from the underlying trend. Demand in US dollars reflects local-currency inflation from reported year to reported year, but rates of exchange between local currencies and the US dollar are held constant in all reported periods, that is, at an average-annual exchange rate calculated for the base year of 2011.
