Opportunities for potential & current volunteers
Happy Valentine's Day! Love is in the air and Kits House wants to let you know that we care. We love our volunteers! (Please forgive the cheesiness.) Here are the latest volunteer opportunities at Kits House...

*URGENT* PARENT & TOT This program is a play group program for children birth to 5 years, whose families/guardians are able to connect while their children play together. We are looking for 1-2 committed and outgoing people to support our Parent & Tot program on Mondays or Fridays from 9am-noon. Duties include assisting with set up/clean up, tea/coffee/snack prep and organizing craft activities for the children. A criminal record check is required if you are over 16, we can help with that.

We need your nominations! The GNAs are an opportunity to celebrate and honour volunteers who have made significant and long lasting contributions to Kits House and our neighbourhood. This spring event recognizes and honours two volunteers in the categories: Youth and Adult. Have someone in mind that youd like to nominate? Let me know before February 22nd.

*NEW* GOOD NEIGHBOUR AWARDS

*NEW* WESTSIDE YOUTH PLAN ALLIANCE -- Free Pizza!

We need your ideas! Kits House and the Westside Youth Plan Alliance are

developing a youth project on the Westside to better support and meet the needs of youth in the community.We are looking for youth between the ages of 13 and 18 to participate in an information session by talking with us and sharing some information about youth on the Westside, while eating pizza. Participants can attend one or two sessions: Wednesday February 27th and Wednesday March 13th from 4-6 pm. *NEW* SENIORS LINKS This program brings together seniors in the community who need a hand around the house with University students able to help. We need an organized and dependable volunteer with strong admin and database skills, good phone manners and who enjoys working with seniors and students. Week day(s) are to be decided, please contact me if you are interested.

*NEW* MAMA & PAPA GOOSE

We are looking for a fun and reliable volunteer Program Assistant to support our Mama & Papa Goose program on Tuesday mornings from 10am-1 pm. Duties include assisting with set up/clean up, snack prep and supporting the facilitator with literacy-focused activities for parents and toddlers. Commitment needed for 10 Tuesdays starting in April, exact start date to be confirmed. A criminal record check is required if you are over 16, we can help with that.

*NEW* KERRISDALE COMMUNITY GARDEN Get involved in your community, meet your neighbors, benefit from locally grown food! Have you always wanted to grow your own food but lacked the knowledge, know-how or physical space? This may be the opportunity you've been waiting for! Love food? Want to get to know people in your neighbourhood? Volunteer and participate in our monthly community potlucks! Potlucks are the first Friday of every month from 6-8 pm at St. Marks Church (1805 Larch Street at West identified by our community members. 2nd Avenue). The volunteer commitment is from 5-9 pm . KITS HOUSE BALCONY GARDEN Interested in learning how to grow food and do it with others? We are seeking

garden members to help set-up a balcony garden at the Kits House office. Starts in March, please contact me if you are interested.

*NEW MONTHLY FEATURE* LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES Babysitting in a Day is an interactive and fun course that teaches youth aged 11 to 15 years the responsibilities of a babysitter, how to get along and care for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and school-aged children, and how to handle emergencies and provide first aid. Cost: $55 (includes the Canadian Red Cross Babysitters Manual and the Babysitters participation card). Friday, April 19 and Friday, May 10, 9:30 am 4:00 pm.

Emergency Child Care First Aid & CPR/AED is a one-day course for parents and caregivers of children covering skills needed to recognize, prevent and respond to airway, breathing and circulation emergencies. Cost: $90 (includes manual and certification). Saturday, Saturday February 16, Saturday, March 23, Saturday April 27 and Saturday, June 22, 9:00 am 5:00 pm.
