End-to-End Data Center Monitoring

Slides 1-7 [no callouts] Login into admin portal eCloudManager provides an end-to-end view over the data center hardware layer, virtualization layer, application layer, projects and customers. The start page is fully customized to reflect the main entry points needed for each customer. Here, for the use case stack orchestrator the focus is on hardware / infrastructure information, the connection between infrastructure components and the relationship to business-level information. Technical data is pre-populated by eCloudManager infrastructure providers. From here, the user can navigate to the infrastructure components in the data center and to central eCloudManager modules, e.g. Documentation module, License and Application Management module, Ticketing System module, etc. Lets start by taking a look at the storage systems in the data center. Please note that similar information is available for compute, network and application resources. Click on the Storage icon in the Infrastructure Components tree The storage page shows the monitored storage systems, the storage load in the data center, as well as related entities such as aggregates, volumes and LUNs. Show Events The events table displays all active errors affecting the monitored storage systems and informs administrators about storage systems that he should take a closer look at. Expand Storage Tree The storage tree automatically displays the correlations between the various storage objects. Show Existing Storages eCloudManager displays a list of all storage systems currently available, including capacity and usage information about these systems. Please note that the eCloudManager can support several storage systems from several vendors. Show Utilization Reporting Customizable charts visualize the number of storages used in the data center over time. This allows data center administrators to analyze historic data and to predict trends. Scroll up to Events Lets have a more detailed look at the storage systems and see how the data center administrator can navigate from the storage layer to the application layer. Click on File clone feature not active in Events table The event overview page provides information about the event context, including information about the sources of the problem.

Click on Event Trigger: NetApp (fas 3050a) The event page directs the data center administrator directly to the storage system which triggered the event. The storage overview page displays general information about the resource, as well as its associated aggregates and volumes. Go back to the Storages overview page by clicking on the Storage icon in the top menu bar and click on EMC Celerra (VNX5300ctrl12) Lets have a look at another storage system and see how it is connected to the application layer. Click on the edit button in the Responsible widget, add a person and save The admin can also add / change the responsible person for this storage system. In the Volumes table click on vnx5300_demo, then in the table Logical Unit Numbers expand to 143 and click on the LUN demo%2f20130104135547%2fSAP GUI/demo%2f20130104135547%2fSAP GUI.vmdk, and then on the VM INST_win2k3_sapGui_001 in the table Linked Virtual Machines By clicking on the virtual machine, data center administrators navigate to a comprehensive overview page including relevant information about this virtual machine. In addition they can define responsible persons for this virtual machine start, stop, reboot, suspend, delete, clone or freeze the state of the virtual machine get an overview of the errors and warnings related to this VM and see all the associated LUNs, Golden Images, applications and patches.

Detailed reports show the CPU and memory usage over time. Scroll up and highlight Virtual Landscape: SAP BW Landscape 0 The data center administrator can navigate further to systems (which can be part of landscapes) running on this virtual machine. Click on Virtual Landscape: SAP BW Landscape 0 The virtual landscape overview displays all relevant information about this SAP landscape. Activities such as start, stop, reboot etc. are possible. Dynamic links to associated events, virtual machines, responsible persons, applications and projects are also displayed. A utilization report shows the CPU and memory utilization of this landscape over time. Click on App in the top menu bar eCloudManager provides additional data center monitoring information. The Enterprise Dashboards show an overview of the SAP applications currently running in the data center. Click on SAP BW Landscape 8 The eCloudManager displays the overall status as well as the monitored SAP landscape instances. Click on system B70 and E70 in this landscape It also shows ABAP and Java monitoring information and database and the process status directly from the SAP systems themselves Slides 8 10 [No callouts]

Collaborative Operations Management and Data Center Intelligence

[Application and License Management]


The eCloudManager License and Application modules allow enterprises to manage the applications they are using throughout their company and keep track of their licenses. Lets take a look at the License Management module. Click on Licenses under Start Links on the start page and highlight Available Licenses The license page gives enterprises an overview of the monitored licenses. The bar chart and the table inform the admin about the number of available licenses versus the number of used licenses. For example, Windows Server 2003 and MS SQL Server 2008 licenses are still available. Scroll up to Create a new License Lets create a new license, lets say for Microsoft SharePoint. Enter TestMSSharePoint without spaces and click Ok All the administrator has to do is to enter the number of Microsoft SharePoint licenses purchased and the license period. Enter

Click finish Now lets link this license to the Microsoft SharePoint application, so that the data center administrator can keep track of the licenses used. Go back to the start page by clicking on the Home button in the top menu and then click on Applications in Start Links The application page shows the administrator the installations implemented in the data center, as well as an overview of all monitored applications.

Scroll up to Actions The data center administrator can also create new applications and attach licenses to an application. Lets first create a new application for Microsoft SharePoint. Enter: MSSharePoint, click ok, scroll down to Licensing Information and choose Windows Server 2003 License The administrator can now interlink the Windows Server 2003 application with the Microsoft SharePoint licenses. Lets go back to the License Management module and check the changes on the dashboard. Go back to the start page by clicking on the Home button, click on Licenses under Start Links, scroll down to Available Licenses and License Usage, highlight Test MS Share Point The new application and its licenses are now being monitored. The license is also displayed in the license usage bar chart and the table.

[Data Center Exploration]


Go back to start page by clicking on the Home button eCloudManager allows for ad-hoc exploration, grouping and filtering of resources along their properties, for example identify VMs satisfying certain constraints. Lets have a look at how this works and try to find all VMs in the data center that are powered off, have a disk size between 100 GB and 200 GB and run Ubuntu Linux 32-bit OS. Click on the VM icon in the Infrastructure Components tree and then on the Pivot view on the right The list of properties we can choose from is automatically populated from the properties of the VMs under consideration. Lets group the VMs by their power status. Click on the bar diagram and then Select Power State in the drop-down list Now lets select those VMs that are currently powered off Select the bar poweredOff sort the selected VMs by their disk size Select Disk Size in the drop-down list then click on the bar diagram again .and select those VMs whose disk size falls into a certain range. Select the bar 100.000.000 200.000.000 Further filters can also be applied using the facets on the left. In the facet search select Operating System and then Ubuntu Linux (32-bit) Then select one VM When clicking on a specific VM, we find all relevant information on the right hand side and can further navigate to the VM detail page. IT as a Service
Slides 1 6 [no callouts] Login into admin portal eCloudManager allows data center administrators and end users to directly provision infrastructure and storage resources as well as complex and multi-tiered enterprise landscapes such as SAP, Oracle or Microsoft on-demand, while retaining full control over the systems and the costs incurred. Click on IT-aaS in top menu Lets access the eCloudManager self-service administration portal by just clicking on IT-aaS in the top menu and learn how easy it is to provide end users with innovative IT as a Service offerings. The users overview allows the data center administrator to create, add, change, or delete users. Click on Users Errors and expand demo The user errors overview gives the administrator an overview of the errors experienced by end users and allows him to track their status. Click on Golden Images The Golden Images overview displays all the available Golden Images. Golden Images are the master copy of a virtual appliance, and they can be copied to several compute infrastructures where they become templates. New Golden Images can easily be created with just a few mouse clicks. Golden Images can be created for infrastructure, storage or application resources. Click on Golden Landscapes The Golden Landscape Overview allows data center administrators to manage the existing landscapes and to create new ones in just a few steps. A Golden Landscape is the master copy of a virtual landscape, and it can be copied to several compute infrastructures. In order to create a new Golden Landscape, the data center administrator simply needs to define a name, a description and to determine the group of Golden Images which will be deployed as a Virtual Landscape. Click on Create new Golden Landscape and fill in the fields Golden Landscape Name: SAP Business Objects Description: SAP Business Objects + ECC Choose Golden Image(s): SAP BO XI, SAP Business Object Client, Virtual Landscape Manager, CTRX Click on next When creating a new Golden Landscape, the administrator can define protocols and ports that can be used to access the individual virtual machines in the landscape. Enter Connections: rdp, click next, then finish and show Job Status page The Golden Landscape SAP Business Objects was successfully created. Go back to IT-aaS and click on Zones For each system, the data center administrator can define zones in which the system is available. A zone consists of a cluster and a storage volume/data store, and is used to define SLAs in terms of

memory, availability, performance, etc. New zones and superzones (zones which contain other zones) can be easily created with just a few clicks using a wizard. The resources included in a zone can be either private or public, thus enabling hybrid cloud scenarios. Click on SLAs The data center administrator can also define the various SLAs and their parameters. Click on Availability The availability overview informs the data center administrator on the availability of Golden Images and Golden Landscapes in different environments and zones. Click on Billing Report Based on a customizable cost calculation formula defined by the data center administrator, eCloudManager provides a billing report which tracks the costs incurred by each user. The metering and billing module can include anything from time of day, to resource type, to resource location. It allows for the definition of flexible pricing models and for detailed monitoring of the resources allocated to and consumed by end users. Click on Authorization and Accounting Using the Authorization and Accounting overview, the administrator can monitor which user groups are allowed to use which Golden Images and which Golden Landscapes and which users belong to which group. Go to the end user portal: https://ecm5demo:50443/portal Login: demo / demo The eCloudManager Self-Service Portal allows end users to provision their own systems and landscapes and have full control over them, while the administrator retains a complete overview of the costs incurred. Please note that eCloudManager supports customized UIs for a known look and feel. Show dashboard overview The dashboard overview shows the landscapes and single systems the end has deployed, as well as their actual status. It also displays the current cost status and the overall cost information over time. Click on Golden Images The Golden Images overview displays all the Golden Images the end user has access to. The Golden Images are ready for immediate deployment and can also be used to extend an already existing landscape. Click on Golden Landscapes Lets say that the end user urgently needs a virtual landscape for a demo. All he needs to do is to access the Golden Landscapes catalog and choose one of the landscapes he has access to and matches his requirements. By expanding the landscape the user can also view the different systems included. The landscape is ready for immediate deployment Select one landscape, click on Immediate Deployment and open the zone selection on top, then show the deploy button or for customized deployment based on his required SLAs.

Click on Instances The Instances overview shows all active instances and the progress of any active deployments. Instantiated landscapes will be ready to use in just a few minutes without any post-provisioning configuration necessary. Once an instance has been created, the end user has full control over it. He can i.e. start it up, stop it, restart it, suspend it, delete it, reconfigure it or extend the landscape. Click on Usage The Usage overview informs the end user of the costs incurred for each performed action and gives him an overview of the costs incurred for each system or landscape. Note that the costs are based on a customizable cost calculation formula defined by the administrator. Click on My Account Using the My Account tab, the end user can reset his password and specify whether he would like to receive email alerts. Slides 7 9 [No callouts]
