Challenges outside the norm require quick and, above all, precise
decision-making. This is why every detail of the all new BMW M
cockpit is specically geared towards intuitive operation for the
driver. Thanks to the two programmable M Drive settings on the M
leather steering wheel, you can activate your escape from everyday
life at the touch of a button by determining the nature of your car at
will. With M Drive, you can opt for either motor sport dynamics or
long-range comfort. If desired, you can control the seven gears of the
M Double Clutch transmission using the gearshift paddles for an even
sportier driving experience. In addition, the full-colour BMW Head-Up
Display ensures greater ergonomics and safety. The M-specic display
projects all relevant driving data, as well as the Optimum Shift Indicator
directly onto the windscreen. Whatever the situation, youll never lose

controlled. That feels better for the driver.
Are there any more advantages to the new rear-
axle lock?
The new lock is completely off during normal
driving, so the new BMW M is even smoother
when the driver brakes sharply or steers
spontaneously. This was evident during our
ne-tuning test drives on race tracks like the
legendary Nrburgring. The lock also stabilises
the vehicle in high-speed lane or other load
changes.
The technical nesse of the BMW M makes
for a fascinating drive. You have already
covered many kilometres in this sharp
company car. What impresses you the most?
The unique technology. From the engine, the
transmission and the electronic dampers to the
completely reworked suspension, its the perfect
symbiosis of business and motor sport. On the
one hand you can drive comfortably for long
stretches and on the other, you can be ready
for the racetrack at any time at the touch of a
button. The switch happens via the two M Drive
buttons on the steering wheel. The driver
can congure these in advance according to
preference. The result is a fantastic feeling:

petrol powerplant in the all new BMW M makes a singularly forceful
statement when it comes to performance and acceleration. The combined
forces of M-typical linear delivery and enormous thrust from the double
turbocharger fully exploit the superb pulling power of the high-performance
engine. The generous dimensions of the intercoolers and the patented
TwinScroll charging concept ensure extraordinary responsiveness. Huge
torque is available across a wide engine speed range with emphatic forward
thrust on tapfromjust over idle right through to high revs. Thanks to Valvetronic
and High Precision Injection, the engine also sets benchmarks when it comes
to the performance to fuel consumption ratio. In combination with BMW
EfcientDynamics features, such as the Auto Start/Stop function and Brake

TwinScroll turbocharger with a cross-bank exhaust manifold:
the exhaust ows from each of two cylinder pairs with a ring interval
are combined and routed along separate channels before reaching the
turbine wheels of the turbochargers. This guarantees that gas ow is not
compromised. Its a highly efcient charging concept that leads to optimum
energy transfer and, therefore, extremely spontaneous reponsiveness.

From comfort-focused to extremely dynamic, the gearshift characteristics
of the -speed M Double Clutch Transmission in the all new M can be
tailored to suit a wide range of preferences. In manual mode especially,
M Double Clutch Drivelogic delivers compelling responses because it
translates the engines energy into uninterrupted, breathtaking propulsion.
The principle of the M Double Clutch Drivelogic, with its focus on high-
revving engines, heralds from motorsport. You shift the seven forward
gears using paddles without taking your hands off the steering wheel and
without any interruption in the transfer of tractive force. And, as in top-level
motorsport, you can shift up while keeping your foot on the accelerator
to experience intense acceleration that makes you valuable tenths of a
second faster.
Double Clutch Drivelogic works by using two partial transmissions. One
contains gears , and ; the other has gears , , and . When you
change gear, it switches from one transmission to the other. This means
that while one gear is disengaging, the next is already engaged. As a result,
theres no break in the ow of power between shifts, so its smooth,
comfortable and, above all, incomparably fast when you shift up. To heighten
the dynamic driving impressions and further improve the cars acceleration,
PERFECTION AT THE LIMIT.
torque is increased to an even higher degree when shifting gears by means
of appropriately congured Drivelogic programmes. Combined with the
close ratio gaps between the gears, these programmes ensure that the
driver senses each gearshift as the starting point for an ever-stronger
surge of acceleration. The M Double Clutch Transmission employs the
same principle on downshifts. However, the transmissions electronics
engage gears more smoothly on downshifts to prevent the unwanted
effect of the rear wheels being slowed too suddenly.
With Drivelogic, you can adjust the gearshift characteristics to suit your
requirements. There is a choice of six drive programmes three in manual
mode and three in automatic. In both cases you can select from a broad
spectrum that spans sporting and dynamic to harmonious and comfortable.
The transmission also provides many additional features, such as Launch
Control, which provides the BMWM with optimally fast acceleration from
a standing start. The Active M Differential lock on the rear axle helps supply
the necessary traction for outstanding acceleration and guarantees
improved dynamic performance even on extremely fast cornering.
Active M Differential. This optimises traction at full power even in tight
bends, during high-speed cornering and on variable road surfaces. An
electronic control unit links the active system and DSC and proactively
ensures the intelligent use of locking torque in every driving situation.
In this way, no drive power is wasted and perfect handling is guaranteed.

Traditional rules do not apply to an exceptional car like the all new BMWM.
As an independent production of MGmbH, it is faithful to the Mphilosophy
and perfectly combines high performance with optimum everyday
practicality.
To full these high aspirations, the intricately constructed M high-
performance chassis has been redeveloped from scratch. Its perfect
tuning is the result of tests on the famous Northern Loop of the
Nrburgring, the hardest test conditions for high-performance cars.
The result: maximum dynamics and agility, plus optimum precision
and control all conveyed through fascinatingly authentic driving feel.
Targeted stiffening measures lead to excellent driving stability and steering
precision. The front axle, for instance, is rmly secured to the body with an
aluminium stiffening plate. Something else that cant be seen, but can be
felt. For the rst time in the M, the Active M Differential on the rear axle
ensures outstanding acceleration and guarantees improved traction even
on extremely fast bends. Here, Dynamic Damper Control also comes into
play and adjusts the suspension, according to your preferences, in three
modes: Comfort, Sport or Sport+. It means you can experience familiar
roads as new every time. Additionally, the M Drive buttons on the steering
wheel offer pre-programmed congurations for either a sporty or a
comfortable drive. One of these is M Dynamic Mode. For a particularly
authentic driving experience, it enables optimum use of longitudinal
and lateral dynamics potential by increasing the threshold of intervention
of the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system so it only intervenes in
critical situations.
Compound brake system. The high-performance brakes in the all
new BMW M provide reliable stopping power and the utmost stability
at all times. The special compound design enables the use of different
materials for optimum temperature balance and consistently impressive
braking in every situation. Even in the most extreme conditions, the brake
system with its perforated, oating discs has nely measured, fast
reactions and a precise pressure point.
Our world is becoming more connected every day. BMW drivers are used to the fact that their vehicle and
their world are connected that they can request information, communicate via telephone or email. The
BMW ConnectedDrive concept encompasses all the services and innovative technologies that network
BMW vehicles and their passengers with the world outside.
Enhanced mobile networking. The BMW Vision ConnectedDrive is a visionary Roadster with a design
that amazes at rst sight. Its dynamic, owing lines draw the eye from the distinctive front end, over the
long bonnet and then to an extraordinary synthesis of exterior and interior. Three levels in the interior each
symbolise an area of BMW ConnectedDrive Convenience, Infotainment and Safety. Accompanying
functions and controls are highlighted with different coloured lights that illuminate information. More

Convenience. Fascinating BMW ConnectedDrive innovations offer service-oriented features, for increased driver convenience. It means you are
always as relaxed as possible in your BMW.
Surround View, Side View and Rear View Camera.
These systems enhance visibility of the area around the vehicle when
manoeuvring. Surround View presents an image of the BMW as seen
from above in the Control Display. Side View ensures better visibility
when joining a main road from a side street or exit. The Rear View
Camera enhances visibility when reversing at speeds below km/h,
for example when parking.
Infotainment. This package provides you with technical and media-oriented services such as USB audio or the Bluetooth interface. In this way you
enjoy the same range of in-car information and entertainment that you are used to at home or in the office.

Internet functionality.
A worldwide rst amongst automobile manufacturers, BMW offers you
genuine internet access on board. When your vehicle is stationary, you
can conveniently surf the web. The internet functionality is gained through
the drivers personal mobile phone and is transferred to the vehicles
system via Bluetooth

Bluetooth Audio Streaming.
The Bluetooth connection

gives drivers access to great on-board

entertainment. They can now wirelessly stream music from music players
or mobile phones positioned anywhere in the vehicle via Bluetooth into
the vehicles HiFi system. In addition, the personal audio library of the
player or mobile phone appears in the display where it can be accessed
via the iDrive Controller. This even works in parallel to existing phone
connections.
Bluetooth interface with added functionality (Bluetooth Ofce).
Use the time you spend on the road even more effectively! Thanks to the
mobile phone preparation with Bluetooth interface and the intelligent
integration of selected business mobile phones

, you can use the Bluetooth

connection to show Ofce functions such as e-mails, dates, tasks or SMS
messages on the Control Display while stationary, or have them read out

Safety. The BMW ConnectedDrive functions in this core area comprise safety-oriented services that significantly reduce the dangers of road traffic
with features such as the full-colour BMW Head-Up Display.
BMW Night Vision with Pedestrian Recognition and
Acute Warning.
An optional infrared camera in the kidney grille detects people and
animals up to a distance of metres, displaying its images on the
Control Display. Pedestrian Recognition also gives a visual warning
to indicate any people moving close to the road, up to a distance of
metres ahead. This enables the driver to recognise dangerous
situations sooner and take more timely action.
Lane Departure Warning and Lane Change Warning.
At speeds above around km/h, the optional Lane Departure Warning
system registers lane markings ahead, up to a distance of metres.
If the vehicle threatens to swerve out of its lane, the system warns the
driver by making the steering wheel vibrate. If the driver has activated
the indicator meaning that the lane change is intentional no warning
is given. The optional Lane Change Warning system warns the driver
with a visual signal integrated into the exterior mirror if there is a vehicle
located in the drivers blind spot or approaching fast from behind.
Full-colour Head-Up Display*.
The full-colour Head-Up Display enables drivers to keep their attention
on the road at all times. Key information is projected directly into the
drivers eld of vision, using a multi-colour TFT display. Information
shown on the full-colour Head-Up Display includes the current road
speed and navigation instructions.

standards. What the eye perceives as a fascinating interplay of luminous tones
arises from unique pigmentation. This is what gives the BMW Individual
Moonstone metallic paintwork its unparalleled depth. Indeed, the three-
dimensional, ever-changing shimmer caused by exceptionally high light refraction
is only exceeded by diamonds. Under the varying play of light, just like moonlight,
this finish iridesces between bluish silver and warm yellow-gold. Its an effect
that lends a polished elegance to the powerful impression of the all new
BMW Individual M. Harmony in contrast, meanwhile, is established by the
BMWIndividual fine-grain Merino leather in Cohiba Brown, with its strong, yet
warm tone. Combining exclusive elegance with the highest comfort, this
satin-soft, breathable leather is distinguished by hand-craftsmanship that
ensures an unspoilt natural grain with an almost tangible sense of nobility.
The sense of luxury is further underlined by leather trims used on an even
more generous scale than in the Series models. The interior trim in Piano
Finish Black is a perfect match for the dark leather. Working with this finish
also requires a high degree of craftsmanship. Creating the highly polished
surface, matched only by leading piano manufacturers, can only be achieved
