They are NOT aimed at CURRENT development. We are looking at the FUTURE development of the Baker River Valley.

25 years ago you voted to protect our floodplains with the Environmentally Sensitive Zones (ESZ) regulations in Plymouths zoning ordinance. Six years ago you defeated an amendment to gut those regulations by a 2 to 1 margin. Now, it is again time to vote to make those common sense regulations enforceable. Your YES vote will allow sensible economic development AND preserve the floodplains of the Baker. The floodplain provides a buffer against flooding and protects our only town drinking water from salt and other contaminants. We can encourage sensible commercial growth in keeping with our adopted Master Plan by passage of these amendments.

A FEW FACTS

The amendments affect the Baker River corridor. The Pemi is not part of these amendments. The amendments are pro-environment AND pro-development as advised in our adopted Master Plan. The bank and the fast food restaurant being built will not be affected. Landowners can still build and landscape in the ESZ. The ESZ allows driveways and their repair. Minor topographical changes are allowed in the ESZ. Agriculture and silviculture are allowed in the ESZ. Landowners cannot move mountains of earth from the ESZ to build elsewhere.

There will be NO DEBATE on these amendments at Town Meeting the next night
