What kind of a salary are you looking for?

Try to put the ball back in interviewers court by asking him about the salary they offer for a position like this. Most of the big companies will have a fixed remuneration for each level. However, if this is negotiable, you will have more negotiation power if you have some work experience. So, know your lower limit (amount below which you cant go) and also know the maximum salary in the industry for the position then put forward a figure which is not very exact. It is better to mention a range. For e.g. if you are expecting something around 55 K, say that you expect something in mid fifties. Dont keep the range to broad otherwise you will be offered something towards the lower end. If you are a fresher, most of the times you will have to accept the companys offering for the position. However, if you find it too less, you can definitely discuss that during the interview.

For how long do you expect to stay with our organization?

You should ensure that you give an impression that you will pay back more than what you take from the company: -You can say I will stay here as far as I see an opportunity for growth, as I am looking for a stability in work place -If they stress on number of years say 3-4 years, and more if I can explore new challenges/growth opportunities

47. What is more important to you money or success?

This is tricky question, as money and success both are important and you cannot outweigh the importance of one over the other. Personally you might prefer money over success or success over money, but it is better to be neutral when answering this question in an interview: You can say, that money and success both are important for you, but if you have to choose you would choose success. The reason being, if one is successful money often follows and you need not focus on money over success..

What do you look for when You hire people?

Think in terms of skills, initiative, and the adaptability to be able to work comfortably and

effectively with others. Mention that you like to hire people who appear capable of moving up in the organization.

15. Have you ever had to fire people? What were the reasons, and how did you handle the situation?
Admit that the situation was not easy, but say that it worked out well, both for the company and, you think, for the individ ual. Show that, like anyone else, you dont enjoy unpleasant tasks but that you can resolve them efficiently and -in the case of firing someone- humanely.

16. What do you think is the most difficult thing about being a manager or executive?
Mention planning, execution, and cost-control. The most difficult task is to motivate and manage employees to get something planned and completed on time and within the budget.

What are your long-range goals?

Refer back to the planning phase of your job search. Dont answer, I want the job youve advertised. Relate your goals to the company you are interviewing: in a firm like yours, I would like to

25. How successful do you youve been so far?

Say that, all-in-all; youre happy with the way your career has progressed so far. Given the normal ups and downs of life, you feel that youve done quite well and have no complaints. Present a positive and confident picture of yourself, but dont overstate your case. An answer like, Everythings wonderful! I cant think of a time when things were going better! Im overjoyed! is likely to make an interviewer wonder whether youre trying to fool him / her or yourself. The most convincing confidence is usually quiet confidence.

Why HR should stand for 'happiness resources'

Happy employees and a culture of 'weirdness' has led to success for green cleaning products company Method

Work-life balance
Ryan insists that the constant focus on happiness and weirdness keeps the company competitive and innovative and is a nod to the blurring of the lines between personal and professional lives; the ability to check email and call mobile phones after work hours has crumbled the walls between work and home. So Method's answer to the question about life-work balance is to have its employees not just be colleagues, but friends who are willing to push themselves and each other.

And while employees may grumble that it takes too long for new positions to be filled, Method's culture of happiness lends itself to employees. Ryan estimates that they can get about 10% more productivity out of employees because while jobs require confronting new challenges, they are happy. In sum, an employee is fulfilled if he or she has a little too much work rather than sitting at a desk and not feeling challenged. At a higher level, the happiness exuded in Method's offices are reflected in the company's products and brand. By creating products that are environmentally-sustainable, well-designed, competitively-priced and fun to use, Method pushed the leading consumer goods companies to roll out their own green cleaning products. The fierce competition within the cleaning products space hardly affected Method's attitude towards its rivals. When one competitor claimed that the company's use of a daisy was a trademark infringement, Lowry and Ryan responded not with a barrage of lawyers, but with a witty and spry video that reflected the uplifting approach Method has on its people, products and the planet. Now Method is in the midst of a new chapter. In late August, the company merged with the Belgian green cleaning products company Ecover. Clearly, maintaining this spirit of fun and happiness will be a challenge for Method as it integrates with a very different company and culture. But as Lowry said as we wrapped up our talk: "We cannot just preserve our company's culture we have to make it better." So far Method's employees, despite obvious concerns, are still happy: Method has yet to lay off an employee due to the merger. Some of the major reasons why people choose a career in HR is the opportunity to influence innumerable aspects of the organisation, to assist in the development of its employees, and to play a part in influencing strategic business decisions. A business is only as good as its employees, and an organisation's employees are only as good as their HR team. At one end of the scale are HR Assistants and at the other sites the HR Director, with a number of varying roles in between. Here are a few examples of jobs from across the HR spectrum:

HR Assistant or HR Administrator - an entry level position acting as the first point of contact for all HR-related queries and handling all personnel-related paperwork and documentation, such as employment contracts HR Officer - responsibilities include recruitment, payroll, training, induction, sickness and absence tracking, disciplinary and grievance procedures, redundancy settlements, equal opportunities and establishing staff support systems. Recruitment Coordinator - arranging the advertisement of new vacancies, analysing applications and shortlisting candidates, arranging job interviews, and managing any testing procedures involved in the recruitment process.

Training Officer - identifies the training requirements among employees within the organisation and designs and implements appropriate training programmes for individuals or groups. HR Manager - a strategic role involving a range of policies, processes and practices relating to the overall business needs of the organisation. Involved with overseeing others in the HR team and the delivery of their responsibilities in addition to employee welfare, salary reviews, and employment law. HR Director - managing and controlling departmental expenditure within agreed budgets as well as maintaining awareness of contemporary HR development theory and methods and provide suitable implementation within the organisation.

Normally the HR team will be office based, working a regular 40 hour week, although during the key graduate recruitment intake or during a time of internal redundancies, there may often be periods of extended hours. So back to the original question of why you might want to work in HR, the motivation is generally one of people. Many roles ask for candidates who are 'good with people' but there is no function where this is more important than in HR. You need to genuinely care about the wellbeing and development of your employers employees, which often results in close working relationships with people from across the business. The IT team, sales division and the finance department may keep themselves to themselves; it's your job as an HR professional to make them function as a cohesive unit. I chose to devote my career to Human Resources due to a passion for business and an understanding of the value human capital brings to a company. I fear however, that many professionals choose to pursue a career in HR to utilize their soft skills or the desire for a quick route to a corporate job.
