Efforts will also be made to recruit players from Asia, Mexico, Canada and Australia. The game is designed to be a Chinese centric event with a focus on the international appeal of American football. The Nixon Foundation

Celebrating 40 Years of Sports-Related Diplomacy

Sports has been a cornerstone of USA diplomatic and business relations for the past 40 years, starting with the initial direct communication between the Unites States and China in 1972 when a USA Ping Pong team visited China, opening the door for the historic meeting between President Nixon and Chairman Mao Zedong that same year. 2012 marks the 40th anniversary of the Nixon-Mao meeting in China. In order to commemorate the visit that forever changed global diplomatic and business relations, a first-ever American football game featuring former professional players will be played in Beijing and will include other American and Chinese cultural and entertainment heroes (pop concert and other events) and historical figures that have impacted USA-China relations during the past four decades. The Nixon Foundation is fully on-board in support of this event and are partnering with APMG. In addition to the marquee football game, which would feature NFL Players Association members and well-known coaches, the initiative will include events and performers that are representative of US-China historical relations as well as current cultural influence. We will organize a Gala the night before the game in which individuals who have impacted USA-China relations through sports and diplomacy will be recognized. Other possible events include the pre-game coin toss, half-time recognition, celebrations at the U.S. Embassy in China and a send-off at the Chinese Embassy in Washington. Media coverage of this event will be massive.
