ROLFORM COLOrSEAL
ADVANTAGES OF COLORSEAL
1. Owing to its colour, Colorseal is obviously aesthetically superior to plain sheets. obviously superior to on-site painting. 2. The use of two contrasting colours further enhances the appearance of a building. 3. Being painted on zinc coated sheets, Colorseal naturally lasts longer than plain galvanised sheets. 4. Colorseal eliminates on-site painting and all the associated on-site surface preparations and is 6. Being oven-baked, it will not crack nor peel under the tropical weather. Notes: dull under the intense and punishing tropical weather. 5. The good appearance of Colorseal lasts longer than unpainted galvanised sheets which tend to

delection (critical)

in.

134.3

2.

Example:

To obtain the delection of 5-6 span and imposed load of 10 lbs/ft , refer to column 6 in the above table which has a span closest to 5-6 and compute as follows:Approximate delection = (10 + 1) x 1.04 = 0.369 ins. = 9.373 mm (30 + 1) Self weight of sheet taken as 1 lb/ft 1 inch = 25.4 mm

Since the delection is proportional to the bending moment which in turn is proportional to the u.d.l., therefore for different imposed loads for a given span, the delection may be computed in proportion to the magnitude of the total u.d.l. (imposed load + self weight of sheet).

Downpipe Sizing

The cross sectional area of a downpipe should be designed such that 600 mm of the downpipe caters for 6.5m of roof area drained. In any case the downpipe cross sectional area should not be less than half that of the gutter from which it drains. It is recommended that downpipes should be spaced at a maximum of 12 m apart (40 feet).

INSTALLATION NOTES
Handling And Storage
On arrival at the site, the bundles of sheets should be lifted from the transport carrier by a crane and properly stacked clear of the ground ready to be lifted up to the roof structure for laying. In the absence of a crane, sheets can be unloaded by hand one at a time. To avoid damage the sheets should be lifted and carried and not dragged over each other or over the ground surface. Ideally sheets should be laid immediately upon arrival on site; however, if this is not possible, the sheets should be kept dry and protected from rain by tarpaulin or polythene sheets until they are ready to be laid.

Institut Latihan Perindustrian, Pulau Pinang

The bundles of sheets should be adequately supported at least 1-6 above the ground such that the sheets are not twisted or excessively sagged. One end of the bundles of sheets should preferably be higher than the other end forming an angle of 10-15 with the ground to encourage any water to run off the sheets. The higher end of the bundles should be wrapped in polythene sheets to prevent ingress of water.

EME Factory, Puchong

Water of condensation or any water getting between the sheets may cause slight staining to the sheets. This is unsightly although the strength of the material is not affected. If water is found between the sheets, they should be immediately separated and each sheet mopped dry with a clean cloth. The sheets should then be left to air dry before being stacked together again. ights Wood We 2 ft ights Wood We Polythene g Sheet Sheet Rooin 1 ft 10o-15o Air Space Wooden Supports

INSTALLATION NOTES
Lifting And Laying Sheets
When lifting sheets up to the roof, it is important to ensure that all the sheets are the correct way up with the overlapping side towards the starting point of laying. This will eliminate turning around of the sheets. Care should be taken to stack the piles of sheets over or near purlin supports rather than at purlin midspan.

INSTALLATION NOTES
Installation Procedures - Seal Klip
STEP 1 Secure a clip at each purlin. Ensure that all the clips are in right orientation. Check the clips alignment using a string pulled from the irst clip to the last. STEP 2 Install irst sheet. STEP 4 Install second sheet over the new row of clips.

When commencing to lay the sheets extreme care should be taken to position the irst sheet straight and square in relation to the roof structure. Thereafter periodic checks should be made to ensure that the already fastened sheets are parallel to the inishing line. If adjustment is required, each subsequent sheet can be adjusted until a parallel alignment is achieved. Cutting If it is necessary to cut the sheets, care should be taken to ensure that sheets are cleanly and squarely cut using preferably a power driven saw or electric nippler. If power tools are not available, a ine- toothed sheet metal saw or hand shear could be used.

STEP 5 Repeat step 3 and 4.

STEP 6 Cut off pan if sheet is too wide and close up with lashing.

Whenever possible, avoid cutting over other sheets particularly when power saws are used as the hot metal particles may damage the appearance of the sheets below. Workers should be instructed to wear soft lat-soled shoes to avoid damaging the sheets. Cleaning Up

STEP 3 Mount one clip over the male rib of the sheet at each purlin.

After each days work it is good practice to sweep the completed portions of the roof clear of all metallic particles such as blind rivet shanks, screws, nuts, nails, cuttings etc and wipe off dirty foot prints. This is to avoid unsightly stains on the metal sheets which may lead to early deterioration.

If a full sheet is required, mount a partclip over the last rib and close up with lashing.

FASTENERS
For a good weather-proof roof and wall cladding it is strongly recommended that self- drilling screw fasteners are used. For non-self-drilling fasteners, holes through the sheets must be drilled and not punched. Fasteners should be of reputable make supplied complete with adequate sized neoprene washers. Fasteners should only be tightened until the neoprene washer is irmly gripped to provide a weather-proof seal. Over-tightening of the fastener could result in splitting the washer or deforming the sheet, either of which could lead to leakage. Acoustics And Heat reduction Reduction

In order to maximise noise reduction it is recommended that the reinforced relective foil be pulled as taut as practicable so that the insulation blanket is pressed tightly against the sheets as shown in diagram A below:
Roof Sheet

CURVED RIDGES FOR Curved ridges for LOW pitched roofs low
Like most steel rooing sheets Rolform proile can be bent over the ridge of a roof provided the radius of curvature is not less than 20 m. Based on this radius the table below gives the arc length to assist in the estimation of the quantity of sheets required and the chord length to indicate the position of the two topmost purlins which should be placed symmetrically about the ridge centre-line.
Arc Length Rise

Even though metal sheets produced by Rolform are perfectly suited for most buildings, there may be times when reduction of heat and noise created by rain is desired. In such cases an insulation blanket of 25-50 mm thick can be ixed to the underside of the sheets supported by a reinforced relective foil.

EXPANSION JOINTS EXpansion Joints

The maximum length of sheets is dictated by the transport carriers capability and the limitations of the public road system. These two factors limit the maximum length of sheets transportable to about 27.5 metres (approximately 90 feet). For a 27.5 metres long sheet the actual movement is less than 3.5 mm for a temperature differential of 20C which is about the maximum experienced in this country. If we consider the expansion of the support structure, the movement of the sheets could be just a fraction of the above igure. Lateral expansion is taken up by the corrugations in the sheets. A typical expansion joint is shown in sketch below.
Bafle Flashing 300 mm overlap

There is therefore no need to provide for an expansion joint to cater for longitudinal thermal movement.
