I was at home last night. Picasso and Dali were painters. She wasnt happy yesterday. They werent at work last week. Was Shakespeare English? Yes, he was. Were you at school last Monday? No, I wasnt. Where were you last night? I was at the disco.

Regular / Irregular verbs


Los verbos en ingls se dividen en regulares e irregulares. Algunos verbos hacen el pasado aadiendo -ed a la base del verbo, otros adoptan un forma totalmente diferente. stos ltimos aparecen todos reflejados en una lista de verbos irregulares.

Regular Verbs
Present Simple: I work in an office. She works in an office.

Affirmative
Past Simple: I worked in an office last year. She worked in an office last year.

Negative
Past Simple: I didnt work in an office last year. She didnt work in an office last year.

Interrogative
Past simple:

Did you work in an office last year? Yes, I did / No, I didnt. Did she work in an office last year? Yes, she did / No, she didnt.

Irregular Verbs
Present Simple: I go to school by car. He goes to school by car.

Affirmative
Past Simple: I went to school by car yesterday. He went to school by car yesterday.

Negative
Past Simple: I didnt go to school by car. He didnt go to school by car yesterday.

Interrogative
Past simple:

Did you go to school by car? Yes, I did / No, I didnt Did he go to school by car yesterday? Yes, he did / No, he didnt.

Forma negativa: Tanto los verbos regulares como los irregulares utilizan la particula didnt. Atencin al verbo que vuelve a su forma de infinitivo! I lived in Italy. / I didnt live in Italy. He went to the swimming pool last Thursday. / He didnt go to the swimming pool last Thursday. Forma interrogativa: se utiliza did para todos los verbos, de nuevo hay que utilizar el verbo en su forma de infinitivo. Did you visit London last summer ? Yes, I did / No, I didnt. Did she get up at seven yesterday? Yes, she did / No, she didnt. No existe diferencia entre las personas, las terceras personas del singular ( he, she, it) se conjugan igual que el resto.

I listened to the radio yesterday evening. She listened to the radio yesterday evening. They had lunch at home. He had lunch at home.
Verbos Regulares Los verbos regulares se caracterizan por aadir a la base del verbo ( infinitivo) la desinencia -ed. Existen unas reglas de ortografa para formar el pasado de los verbos regulares ya que no todos los verbos aaden -ed de la misma manera.

Reglas:
1. La regla general es aadir ed a la base del verbo (infinitivo). Work worked 2. Cuando el verbo termina en e, solo aadimos d. Like liked

3. Si el verbo tiene una sola slaba, una sola vocal y una sola consonante final, la consonante final se dobla. Stop stopped Si la consonante final es la -y o la - w no hay duplicacin. Play played 4. En la mayora de verbos de dos slabas, la consonante se dobla si el acento recae en la segunda slaba. preferred Prefer 5.- Los verbos que terminan en consonante + y cambian la y a -i y aaden ed. Carry carried Pero si la -y est precedida de vocal no hay tal cambio y solo se aade -ed enjoy enjoyed

Uso del Pasado Simple ( Verbos regulares e irregulares)


Se usa para: 1. Expresar una accin terminada en el pasado, por eso tenemos una expresin temporal que lo indica.

We met in 1987
2. Para expresar acciones que se suceden una detrs de otra en una historia.

Mary walked into the room and stopped. She listened carefully. She heard a noise coming from behind the curtain.
3. Para expresar una situacin o hbito ubicado en el pasado.

When I was a child we lived in a small house by the sea. We used to swim every day. Used to + infinitivo se usa para expresar hbitos del pasado.

Expresiones temporales
Cuando contamos algo del pasado utilizamos expresiones temporales que localizan ese hecho en el pasado. Es importante reflejar cuando se realiz la accin. I did it ... last night (anoche) ... yesterday (ayer) ... two days ago ( hace dos das) ... in 1988 ( en ...) ... in summer / last summer... ( en verano / el pasado verano...) when I was young ( cuando era joven)
