Blood Donation Programmes


A Blood Donation Programme was organized in the Megoda Kolonnawa area on the 17 th of February 2013. The area which is largely populated by the Muslim community collected & donated 50 pints of blood with the help of the blood bank. The programme took place in one of the Colombo Branchs unit members premises in Ranaviru Mawatha. Meanwhile the Junior Red Cross Circle (JRC) of Royal College organized their 34th consecutive Blood donation Programme that was conducted in Royal College, Colombo 07 on the 28th of Febraury 2013. 96 pints of blood was collected by the blood bank and the donation of blooad was done by students, teachers and officials from the armed forces. The main objectives of these programmes were to promote & support the establishment of effective blood donor programmes, eliminate the level of dependency and to support the government as an auxiliary.

Dissemination & Junior Red Cross Circles


Dissemination is the promotion of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) and the Red Cross family which is the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (IFRC) & the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). During dissemination programmes the history of the Red Cross, its seven fundamental principles, our humanitarian services along with the Geneva conventions are mentioned and described in detail to the community to give a better understanding about the Red Cross movement. 09 number of dissemination programmes were done for a total number of 479 students in Colombo district schools during the formation of the Junior Red Cross Circles (JRC). After conducting the dissemination programme a dissemination exam is normally done to make sure the students have got the proper knowledge.

First Aid Trainings & Services


First Aid trainings were conducted by the branch for schools in the Colombo District on the 05 th, 07th and 8th of February 2013 for the JRCs formed in these schools; a total number of 102 students were trained on First Aid. First Aid trainings were also done for the 16th Colombo Cub Pack of St. Thomas College on the 28th of February 2013. The SLRCS Colombo Branch along with the District Disaster Management Centre (DDMC) 07th, 08th and 15th of February 2013 in Schools in the Godagama, Niyandagala and Jalthara Maha Vidyalaya. These Children were educated on junior first aid where basic first aid tips were given so that in case of a day to day emergency these children would know how to react and minimize the amount of risk. Meanwhile First Aid services done in schools on the 01st, 06th, 08th, 11th and 14th of February 2013 for sports meets that took place in some schools in the Colombo District. Shramadana Campaigns
A shramadana campaign is the cleaning of an area by volunteers, a campaign was organised in the Heraliyawala area by the Heraliyawala Unit of the SLRCS Colombo Branch on the 23rd of February 2013. There were 40 numbers of volunteers from the community who are active members of the SLRCS Colombo Branch unit to support the shramadana campaign. The main objective of this campaign was to make sure that the community of the Heraliyawala area have dirt free area and also increasing the awareness of re cycling & re using solid material to create a greener future for the future generation.

Monthly Progress Meeting and Orientation Programme for Units


An orientation programme was conducted on the 25th of February 2013 for the Hony. Unit chairman, Hony. Secretary and the Hony Treasurer of all SLRCS Active units in the Colombo District. There were 35 numbers of participants present for this programme which was conducted by the Hony. Branch Chairman, Hony. Vice Chairman and the Branch Executive Officer of the Colombo Branch. The main purpose of this orientation programme was to educate the unit members on the beyond Re Engineering targets prepared by the Branch for units, reporting methods, Division Annual General Meetings (AGM) matters, Rules & Procedures and planning meetings.

Child Protection Programme


An orientation programme was conducted on the 3 rd of February 2013 on child protection in the area of Heraliyawala. This was done by the Colombo Branch and the Child Rights Protection Authority. There were 60 number of participants both children and parents. The main objective of the child protection programme is to consider safeguarding children and to provide basic child protection information to children.

Unit Planning Meetings


Planning meetings were conducted for 9 numbers SLRCS Colombo District Active Units throughout the month of February. The main objective of conducting such meeting was to explain the Way Forward Beyond Re Engineering (WF BRE) target booklet, develop and revise the annual activity plan according to the Way Forward targets given by the National Head Quarters, identify the roles of each committee member and to be well functioning Active Units by disseminating Red Cross Principles & Values. Ambulance Services The ambulance department of the branch conducted services for schools in the Colombo District on the 1st , 06th,
08th and 11th of February 2013 for sports meets that took place in some schools in the Colombo District. The JRC members of these schools actively participated by providing First Aid services for these activities.
