System Description
The VAG group immobiliser system consists of an immobiliser ECU which controls the recognition of keys and the Engine Management ECU system. The Immobiliser ECU enables up to 8 keys to be programmed and are recognised via the transponder aerial mounted around the Ignition lock. If the keys are lost or a replacement Engine Management ECU is fitted then the transponder keys will need programming so that the ECU memories recognise the codes.

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. All keys must be present for programming or they will be erased during the programming procedure. Any keys not programmed during the procedure will have to be reprogrammed. The read write transponder keys (Silca T5/Keyline TK1 and similar) must be pre-programmed with a compatible code before starting the programming procedure. The car dealers can supply the 7 digit pin code that must be converted into 4 digits before use. If the wrong password is entered after three consecutive attempts the immobilizer will lock the ECU. See the reset procedure for unlocking the ECU. Check the Common Programming Errors below if you encounter any problems during programming.

Pin Code
Audi and VW models need a PIN Code to complete the key programming. The PIN Code is derived from the 14 digit Immobiliser Serial Number contained in the ECU and the VIN number of the vehicle. When communication is achieved between the T-Code/AD100 and the ECU a 14 digit code will be displayed in the ECU identification menu. This is the 14 digit immobiliser serial number. The code is located behind a small scratch off label, similar to a prize scratch card. Once scratched off it should reveal a 4 digit pin code required to code new keys. On the latest vehicles the 4 digit code is not supplied with the vehicle and the dealers use a 7 digit code which has the 4 digit hidden within it. This means that a conversion is required which the vehicle manufacturer dealers cannot help with. It is a good idea to have a working relationship with your local dealer in order to obtain the PIN Codes when necessary for key programming. The car dealers can supply the 7 digit pin code that must be converted into 4 digits before use. You will also require the dealers country and workshop/dealer code. Click here to convert your 7 digit code. Pin Code Reading Pin code reading is possible only on certain vehicles, and will depend on what dashboard components are fitted and the software version. The Pin code reading will not work on any System 1 vehicles. The results of the Pin Code reading may vary and can supply several different possibilities, however many of these can be discounted as the Pin Code is always numerical and never 0000. We cannot guarantee success on all vehicles as many vehicle vary depending on country of manufacture and specifications. Newer systems will require the removal of the dashboard, and a new cable will be required. This cable is not currently available.

General Programming Information


This can only be done with the use of an electronic device connected to the vehicle system. This vehicle system can memorise up to 8 different keys into the system. Programming time typically less than 5 minutes. Reset time is 35 minutes. Programming protocol is System 1. Programming method is Erase keys.

Switch the ignition ON to check the presence of the immobilizer lamp. System 1 DOES NOT have the immobilizer lamp.

The connector is located at the centre of the dash panel down below the ashtray behind a plastic cover.

Common Programming Errors/ Troubleshooting


The following are some of the most common areas that cause communication or programming errors/failures. Please check these first if you encounter any errors. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. 13. Correct cable (and adaptor where applicable) selected. Cable is in good condition. Ignition status is in accordance with the programming device instructions. Vehicle identification is correct and corresponds with the programming device selection. System selection is correct where applicable (e.g. NATS 3,4,5 or Type 1,2 etc) The vehicle battery is sufficiently charged. Key selection is correct. NOTE: The read write transponder (Silca T5/Keyline TK1 and similar) keys must be pre-programmed with a compatible code before starting the programming procedure. Check vehicle history for after market modification e.g. alarm systems and kill switches fitted. Check vehicle state of repair e.g. wiring and other circuitry Check vehicle ignition aerial, surround and housing for tampering as a result of attempted theft. Ignition aerial must be intact. Check for check for collision damage and subsequent replacement of body parts. If the wrong password is entered after three consecutive attempts the immobilizer will lock the ECU. See the reset procedure for unlocking the ECU. Incorrect system selection may result in "No Communication" error message.

Engine Immobilisation Override (EKA)


The EKA code (same 4 digit pin code used for programming ) allows you to enable and disable the immobiliser system even without a programmed key or without a transponder. This emergency procedure enables you to start the engine only if the engine doesnt start because of an immobiliser problem. If the procedure is interrupted or not done properly, you must do it again. Thats why it is important to read and understand properly the procedure. This procedure must be done for each starting: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. Read the pin code carefully. Insert key and turn ignition ON. Turn the LH button and press the RH button on the dashboard at the same time. The trip mileage recorder will display 4 zeros (0). If the first digit is not flashing turn the LH button. Press the RH button as many times as is needed to display the first digit of the PIN code (first digit of the trip mileage recorder). Turn the RH button until the second digits starts flashing. Press the RH button as many times as is needed to display the second digit of the PIN code (second digit of the trip mileage recorder). Repeat the same procedure (steps 6 and 5) for the other 2 digits of the PIN code. Turn the LH button and press the RH button on the dashboard at the same time. At the end of this procedure the immobiliser light will stop flashing (if this is not the case check the PIN code,

Resetting Procedure
If the wrong password is entered after three consecutive attempts the immobilizer will lock the ECU. Insert key and leave ON for a minimum of 35 minutes to reset (ensuring battery does not go flat during this time).

Key Fob Programming


Remote Control Programming Procedure 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Switch Ignition ON and leave the key in the ignition. Mechanically lock the vehicle using the Drivers door using a second key. Using the remote control press the Unlock button once, and the horn will sound once (this puts the car into programming mode). Wait 6 seconds and press the unlock button once to activate the coding procedure. The remote control will now be programmed. Switch Ignition OFF. Remove key from ignition and check for operation. The coding procedure can be repeated up to 4 times for additional remotes. When performing programming on additional remotes the procedure is the same, except you press the unlock button 2, 3 or 4 times for the different remotes. For example: If programming 2 remotes press the unlock button twice with a 1 second interval between each press, repeat for 3 and 4 remotes. The ignition must be switched OFF between programming each remote control.

Remote Control Erasing Procedure 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Switch Ignition ON and leave the key in the ignition. Mechanically lock the vehicle using the Drivers door using a second key. Press the remote control unlock button 5 times in 1 second intervals. A short horn will sound. Wait 6 seconds and press the unlock button once to activate memory erase. Switch ignition OFF, all remotes are now erased.
