OVERVIEW: Major port comprising several harbour basins accessed via locks. The port handles bulk carriers, containers, general cargo, Ro-Ro, cruise, tankers. LOCATION: On the North Sea Canal, 70 km. NE of Rotterdam. CHARTS: BA Charts No. 124 and 1631. ISPS COMPLIANCE: Port is compliant. MAX. SIZE: LOA 325 m., draft 13.7 m. DENSITY: Brackish to fresh. RESTRICTIONS: Special permission is required for vessels with following dimensions: Beam Max Draft (SW) (m.) (m.) 42.0-45.0 13.7 45.0 13.1 APPROACHES: Vessels proceeding to Amsterdam have to pass locks at Ymuiden. The max. draft to enter Ymuiden is 17.80 m. Dimensions of Northern Lock (largest): length 400 m., width 50 m. and depth 15.0 m. Max. draft to use the locks is 13.7 m. PILOTAGE: Compulsory. ETD message must be sent at least 4 hours before departure to Amsterdam Pilots or via Amsterdam Port Control on VHF 14 or on VHF 68; or via IJmuiden Port Control on VHF 61. 1. Pilot launches have a yellow hull, white superstructure and the word Pilot painted in black on sides. Pilot launches fly a blue flag with white letter L from the foremast. Vessels are equipped with radar and VHF. It is advisable to contact the launch on the VHF channel of the sector where the Pilot will board the vessel (Pilot launch on Channel 61). Pilot Embarkation/Disembarkation: 1. Pilot ladder: Pilot ladders should be rigged at a height of approximately 2.0 m. above sea level. In cases of freeboard more than 9.0 m., the ladder should be made ready in combination with the accommodation ladder. Pilots information and advice for ships with a length overall up to 125 m. can also be obtained by means of shore based radar, when launches are not working outside the breakwater. ANCHORAGES: Anchoring in Ymuiden outer harbour, North Sea Canal and in any harbour of Amsterdam is prohibited. Compulsory Monitoring and Compulsory Reporting for Sea-Going Traffic: Channels 61, 3, 88 and 4.

OVERVIEW: Multi-purpose port handling dry and liquid bulk, general cargo, container, perishables and cruise vessels. LOCATION: The port is situated on the east coast of Mexico, on the north bank of the Tuxpan River. Santiago de la Pena is part of Tuxpan and is situated the south bank. The entrance of the Tuxpan River is situated at Lat. 20_ 58.2 N, Long. 97_ 18.1 W. There are breakwaters on both sides of the river mouth. The north breakwater has a length of 1,004 m. that is visible and 130 m. that is submerged, and the south breakwater has a length of 720 m. CHARTS: BA Chart No. 373. PORT LIMITS: 6.8 nautical miles from breakwaters to Tuxpan Reef. Tankers: 30,000 d.w.t.; draft 6.40 m., SBM draft 16.77 m. RESTRICTIONS: None. Vessels enter the port throughout 24 hours. APPROACHES: Main Channel: Length 2.2 km., width 150 m., depth 11.3 m. Interior Channel: Length 5.0 km. and depth 11 m. Turning Basin: 400 m._230 m. with a depth of 11 m. Maritime Signals: There is a lighthouse on the coast and beacons along the navigation channels. PILOTAGE: Compulsory. Pilot boards the vessel approximately 1.5 2.0 nautical miles west of the breakwaters. Pilot Office. Contact: Tel: +52 (783) 837 0437. ANCHORAGES: The anchorage area is 4 nautical miles beyond the breakwaters with limits of 1 nautical mile north and 1 nautical mile south. PRATIQUE: There are five hospitals in Tuxpan. SHIPMASTERS REPORT: January 1982 (Updated 1994). Location: Tuxpan is situated on the north bank of the Rio Tuxpan. On the opposite side (the south bank) is situated part of Tuxpan called Santiago de la Pena. Pilotage: Compulsory. Pilot boards vessel approximately 2 2.5 miles east of entrance. Pilot boat: A white 20 ft. boat with white cabin and blue/white deck. Equipped with VHF Channel 16. Pilot Office open from sunrise to sunset and listening on VHF Channel 16. Call: Tuxpan Pilot. The Pilot has to be ordered by Agent 24 hours in advance. Anchorage: East of breakwaters from 2 4 miles on a breadth of 1 mile north and 1 mile south of this line. Caution: Many submerged gas and oil-pipes in the vicinity of entrance to Rio Tuxpan. Best Anchorage: North mole head bearing 270_(T) and 2.8 miles off. Ground: Muddy sand, good holding. Tankers: Offshore there are two SBMs in position: No. 2: Lat. 21_ 02.58' N, Long. 97_ 17.43' W and No. 1: 135_ 1.9 miles from No. 2 SBM. Tankers with 16.76 m. draft acceptable. These SBMs are mainly used by PEMEX. Two additional buoys are to be installed.
