1 Ensure the CMS12 in line with CEMP and submit to PM, ECO and City of Cape Town for approval 2 Workers inducted into requirements of CMS12. Requirements reinforced during daily toolbox talks. 3 A storm water catchpit (without cover and frame) will be constructed in the centre of the cementious material (e.g. dagha, concrete and plaster) mixing area on site. 4 An uPVC pipe will be laid to connect the catchpit with the sand filter (a best practice storm water quality treatment structure required by the Catchment, Storm Water and River Management Branch of the City of Cape Town) located on site. The sand filter is a swimming pool structure filled with subsoils (linked to the storm water connection pipe provided by City of Cape Town) surrounded in stone, covered with bidim and clean sand on top. The bidim and sand will have to be replaced from time to time to ensure proper drainage of the construction wastewater. The catchpit will be filled with building rubble from site followed by a layer of bidim and a thin layer of clean sand on top to keep the bidim in place. The construction wastewater will be routed to this catchpit, filter through the sand, bidim and building rubble and flow into the big sand filter. The sand filter will further quality treat the wastewater and discharge the clean water into the storm water system. On completion of the concrete mixing the contaminated bidim and filling sand on top to be excavated and removed off site to a licenced waste facility by the appointed contractor. Once the construction is finished the sand and bidim in the sand filter structure will be replaced with new material to ensure the proper functioning of this device. Waste certificates to be provided for the disposal of hazardous and general construction waste.
