Lisondra Communication III PERSUASIVE SPEECH PLAN Title: A Brighter Way to See the Light Speech Purpose: To justify that human cloning is beneficial and positive for the human race. Statement: Human cloning is the most obvious solution to our health problems and being against it will only hinder us in attaining a brighter future. INTRODUCTION Attention Step: People do not only fear death but also the process by which death is attained. Growing old, feeling old and acting old are the definite things a human being does not want to experience. Clarification Step: But what if there is a solution that could prevent this from happening? Would not you want a better quality of life? In here enters the notion of human cloning which is indeed is essential and beneficial. And maintaining a negative view on this will surely not get you any farther from where you are right now. BODY Human cloning gives solution to organ limitation, decreasing the mortality rate. A. There is a great need of organ supply for various treatments, which are not readily available. 1. Out of 40,000 patients in the United States of the year 1997, only 2,300 were able to get a new heart. B. Resolving on organ donation increases risks and percentage of failure. C. Alterations on the organ could be done to suit the patient before implanting it. Human cloning could advance the medical technology that could cure more illnesses. A. The study on defective genes that carry diseases can be explored. 1. Specifically, the differentiation of cancerous cells. B. A gene therapy or alteration could be formulated and performed to cure the illness or disease. C. Drugs could be improved. D. Other cellular activities can be observed, analysed and replicated. 1. Through cloning, enzymes such as the hexoseaminidase A could be synthesized to cure Tay-Sachs Diseases. Human cloning can give a better quality of life. A. It can reverse essence of aging. 1. Generating new cells that could replace old cells would result to better performance of the organ system. 2. A 65 year old man can feel and act like he is 20 if all his old cells are replaced with healthy and productive young ones.

CONCLUSION Summary Step: We have always seen human cloning as negative and against our ethics and beliefs. But if we try to see it in a different aspect, where we consider those brothers and sisters of ours who suffered, are suffering and will suffer gene- generated diseases, we would see this is essential and beneficial. Let us not stay closed-minded and stubborn to change and progress. May we see the importance of this notion and start supporting it.
