law of compression is pV1.25=C and is the same for all the stages of compression. Assuming perfect intercooling, neglect clearance, find the minimum power required to compress 15m3/min of free air. Also find the intermediate pressures.
2) Free air of 30 m3/min is compressed from 101.3kPa to 2.23 bar. Determine the power
required and isentropic efficiency if a) Root blower is used. b) If vane type of blower is used assume that there is 25% reduction in volume before back flow occurs. 3) Compare and contrast the rotary compressor and reciprocating compressor.
4) A rotary compressor delivers free air at the rate of 30 kg/min at a pressure of 2.5 bar and
127oC. The intake pressure and temperature of the air are 1 bar and 27oC respectively. Process is adiabatic, find: a) Index of compression b) Power required c) Isothermal and adiabatic efficiencies. Assume, = 1.4, R= 290 Nm/kg K.
5) Air is compressed from initial pressure of 1 bar and temperature 290 K to a pressure of 5
bar. Taking for air= 1.4, Cp= 1.00kJ/kg K, calculate per kg of air delivered the work expanded if the compression is to be (a) frictionless Isothermal (b) frictionless Adiabatic (c) Adiabatic compression with internal friction, the air temperature at delivery being 480 K (d) cooled compression with internal friction, the exit temperature is 405 K.
