POSITION: INTERPRETER BURMESE / ENGLISH LANGUAGE

LOCATION: Bangkok

POSITION REPORTS TO: Human Resources Officer

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Temporary Contract – 6 months contract

ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:
Founded in 1933, the IRC is one of the largest humanitarian agencies in the world, providing relief,
rehabilitation post-conflict reconstruction support, and resettlement services to victims of oppression and
violent conflict in over 20 countries worldwide and 23 offices in the United States. In Bangkok, Thailand the
IRC operates an Overseas Processing Entity (OPE) to assist persons seeking admission to the US as
refugees. The OPE staff completes refugee applications for consideration and assists the US Government in
the processing of such applications. The OPE also gathers key information that is given to US resettlement
agencies to help them prepare for the arrival of approved refugees.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The position is for an interpreter to provide interpretations or translations of oral or written statements given
in Burmese language and other Burmese languages (such as; Karen, Karenni, Chin, Arakan, etc.) and
interpret or translate into English Language. As Fixed term contract position period of working are 6 months.
Confidentiality is required.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
ƒ Provide translation document from Burmese and other Burmese languages to English Language and
vise versa.
ƒ Provide interpretation services for OPE assignments in Bangkok office and on occasionally outside
Bangkok office if necessary.
ƒ Assist HR officer in updating pool of interpreters for OPE processing.
ƒ Prepare all relevant documentation for translation payment made through to outsourcing or translation
company service provider.
ƒ Perform other relevant duties as directed by supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS:
ƒ Perfect command of native language (Burmese) and excellent knowledge of English.
ƒ Good organizational, coordination, and reporting skills.
ƒ Ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously.
ƒ Thorough knowledge of computer software (e.g., Word, Excel, email, internet).
ƒ Proven skill in basic administration.
ƒ Maturity, positive attitude and familiar working with under pressure.
ƒ Experience working in as Interpreter is an advantage.
ƒ Be able to communicate in other Burmese language is an advantage.

REMARK:

All positions require the one who have good human relations and must be a team player, ability to work
under pressure of deadlines.
