The Alcatel-Lucent 7450 Ethernet Service Switch/Router (ESS) Media Dependent Adapter-XP (MDA-XP) extends the wire-speed Gigabit and 10-Gigabit port density and service capacity for the 7450 ESS. It offers cost-effective, standards-based connectivity solutions for service providers in a wide range of metro, national and international Ethernet services. Deployed in unison with Input/Output Modules (IOMs), the MDA-XPs granular interface flexibility maximizes technology investments while reducing the overall total cost of ownership.

The Media Dependant Adapter (MDA) provides highly flexible modularphysical network interface options for the Alcatel-Lucent 7450 Ethernet Service Switch/Router (ESS). The MDA is a hot-swappable, half-slot adapter that inserts into a full-slot 7450 ESS Input/ Output Module (IOM). Supporting up to two MDAs, the IOM provides fully distributed forwarding and packet services and delivers the full complement of the Alcatel-Lucent Service Router Operating System (SR OS)capabilities for the 7450 ESS. The 7450 ESS MDA delivers comprehensive IEEE 802.3 compliance, and in conjunction with the selected IOM, providescomprehensive support for IP/MPLS-based Carrier Ethernet services: Ethernet over MPLS (EoMPLS), Ethernet services such as Ethernet Line Services (E-Line), Ethernet LAN Services (E-LAN), Virtual Private Wire Services (VPWS) and Virtual Private LAN Services (VPLS) Because physical port interfaces can be selected in half-slot increments, the IOM and MDA combination enables service providers to achieve high-densitydeployments with an unmatched level of connectivity flexibility. This innovative approach allows service providers to
granularly configure each Alcatel-Lucent 7450 ESS with a broad range ofinterfaces to meet the increasing bandwidth and density demands of a converged network supporting voice, video, data, and wireless services.

adapters to a graceful over-subscribed mode in the IOM-1. When deployed in the IOM-1, the MDA-XP seamlesslysupports over-subscription with intelligent pre-classification applied to all traffic as it is passed between the MDA-XP and the IOM-based FP packet pro cessing complex. Any combination of MDAs and MDAXPs can be deployed in the same IOM, with each providing its intended level of performance. Consequently, the MDA-XP can be immediately andseamlessly deployed in existing environments, providing an unmatched level offlexibility and operational continuity. This results in a significant reduction in sparing requirements, while leveraging and preserving service provider technology investments.
optical parameters for each deployed SFP/XFP in real time includingtem perature, supply voltage, laser TX bias current, laser TX output power, and laser RX optical power. With a range of thresholds and real-time notification alarms, DDM can proactively identify optical errors, enabling proactive and rapid link and router fault isolation and resolution. As a result, real-time visibility significantly improvesinstallation, activation and troubleshooting and reduces overall operational costs.
