(a) (b) Draw the circuit diagram of a single-phase full-bridge inverter with inductive load. Label the important parameters clearly. Suggest a switching scheme (other than PWM) that can control the output voltage of the inverter. Elaborate on how the inverter output voltage (amplitude and harmonic) can be controlled based on the switching scheme. Mention some of the constraints of the switching scheme, if any. Draw the typical inverter output voltage waveform for the one cycle of the inverter operation. Assume 60 Hz inverter operating frequency. Show the gate signals for each of the inverter switching devices that produce the output voltage. Label the important parameters clearly. How do you completely eliminate the 5th harmonic of the output voltage while maintaining the amplitude of the fundamental of the output voltage at 127 V? Plot the frequency spectrum of the inverter output voltage up to the 15 th order. Label the important parameters clearly.

(b) Assuming a square-wave output voltage waveform is generated by the inverter, (i) Sketch the inverter output voltage and the gate signals for each of its power devices. (ii) Determine the fundamental of the inverter output voltage and the total power absorbed by the load. Assuming a quasi square-wave inverter output voltage, (i) (ii) What is the angle required to eliminate the third harmonic component of the inverter output voltage? If the same fundamental output voltage as determined in (b)(ii) is to be maintained, what is the DC supply voltage required for the inverter?
