1 Overview

1.1 Presentation
The purpose of this method is to activate E-GPRS on a per BSS basis. From a radio interface point of view, E-GPRS means the introduction on the radio interface of new modulation and coding schema which will improve the data throughput for packet-switched traffic. In the following table the new modulation and coding schema are listed with the corresponding throughput: Schema Modulation Maximum Rate [kbps] per Radio TS 8.8 11.2 14.8 17.6 22.4 29.6 44.8 54.4 59.2

MCS-1 MCS-2 MCS-3 MCS-4 MCS-5 MCS-6 MCS-7 MCS-8 MCS-9

GMSK GMSK GMSK GMSK 8-PSK 8-PSK 8-PSK 8-PSK 8-PSK

To improve GPRS traffic on the radio interface, two new coding schemas were introduced: Schema Maximum Rate [kbps] per Radio TS 14.4 20

CS3 CS4

These two new optional features are available from the OMC-R only if the Operator bought them.

1.1.1 Cases
The following case applies: C1: Multi GPU BSS.

1.1.2 Options
The following option applies: O1: Modify the coding scheme on the radio interface for GPRS (Max_GPRS_CS)

1.2 Preparation
1.2.1 Prerequisites
The following prerequisites apply: The MFS and the BSC are already associated The link between the OMC-R and MFS is available in both directions The BSS and the MFS are in service The Ater Mux interface is already configured to support GPRS The Gb interface is configured The hardware supporting HSDS is already deployed (G4 TREs and SUMA board for secondary Abis) In all the cells where you want to activate E-GPRS, there is at least one G4 TRE (inside A9100 BTS or inside A9110-E) The NExtraAbisTS is correctly set for each BTS. If NExtraAbisTS is not already defined, during this scenario it is mandatory to define it.

Set Cell Telecom Parameters in working PRC, in order to add E-GPRS on cells or to modify default E-GPRS parameters. If the operator wants to set the same value for some parameters in more than one cell, then Edit n Cells. Max_PDCH must be different from 0 to have GPRS, E-GPRS or LCS on cell. The operator can also modify Min_PDCH, NB_TS_MPDCH, Max_Pdch_High_Load, and En_fast_initial_GPRS_access, Max_EGPRS_MCS or PS_ PREF_ BCCH_ TRX parameters. Set Max_GPRS_CS to CS3 or CS4.

Note1: To have E-GPRS on cell set EN_EGPRS to Enable. Note2: To have GPRS or E-GPRS on the cell, TRX Pref.mark must be 0. To modify it for a block of TRX, use Set/Update Circuit/Packet Preference Mark Configuration Using Script.

Synchronize PRC with SC. Check PRC (Check all without forcing cell administrative state).
