Synopsis of Scenario #10.1

cross-cultural confusion My worst experience was when in first grade. My teacher was a racist and felt she really had it in for us (another Hispanic little boy and me). She made me stay after school day. I hated going to school. She would yell at me in front of the whole class because I couldnt understand what she was instructing me to do much less read in a language that was so foreign to me. The worst was that when she would yell at me, everyone laughed at me. It still hurts to remember.

Analysis of Scenario #10.1

Educators should be able to teach and contact with all students in the classroom regardless of the different cultural background of each child. It might be difficult to have a student who cannot understand what the teacher is asking for. Students of limited- English- proficiency(ELP) need a special treatment. Unfortunately, there are essential mistakes being committed by teachers such as yelling, punishment, and insulting which are not the best ways to teach ELP child and any child. Indeed, teacher's racist attitude will be transferred to the other children and then no ethical values will be learned. Moreover, It will causes psychological issues in the child being insulted. Teachers can avoid such a racist attitude by realizing that they have some different students who cannot speak or understand the same language of the other students in the classroom. Furthermore, teachers should be patient and courage LEP students to ask about what they do not understand. Teachers can also motivate their students to help their ELP classmates. Teachers should never and ever treat their learners differently due to the ethnical and cultural background.

Teaching Strategies for Limited1. Use visual aids often. 2. Incorporate hands-on activities to demonstrate concepts. 3. Allow sufficient wait time. 4. Model spoken language. 5. Prepare outlines for lectures. 6. Encourage skim and scan reading strategies for textbook assignments. 7. Avoid forcing LEP students to speak.

Synopsis of Scenario #10.5

Separate and unequal treatment In the first grade, the teacher put my desk in the back of a room and separated me from the rest of the class. Her reason for doing this was because I did not speak English.

Analysis of Scenario #10.5

In this scenario the educator makes a big mistake due to lack of experience to deal with limited- English- proficient (LEP) learner. She separates LEP child from his/her classmates and prevents him /her from a great opportunity of learning English through communicating with the native speakers( the classmates). In fact, this is not only the teachers' mistake, but also the principles' mistake. Principles who have LEP students in their schools should prepare their teachers by providing them with training program that enable them to obtain the effective skills to teach LEP children professionally.

Culture Clash My worst experience that I understand now but didn't then the teachers lack of understanding of students' cultural background, especially for those students who were learning English as a second language. As a learner who is learning English as a second language, I can tell that every single day is a challenge especially when I deal with instructors who do not regard my limitedEnglish- proficiency. There are different types of culture clashes: teacher to learner, learner to learner, and learner to curriculum. I believe that educators should learn about the their LEP learners' cultural backgrounds, so educators can involve meaningful activities. Furthermore, teachers should respect the ethical concepts of their learners' cultures. Educators should be provided with training programs to learn effective strategies for teaching LEP students. The most important roles that teachers can play is: correlating various cultures with the ethical values being taught.

It is NOT always the teachers' fault since they are not the only factor that can affect the learning process. There are several factors should be considered: The Students, The Principles, The Parents, The Curriculum, The School and The District Policy.
