Abstract: Result of an MFL in-line inspection shows that several severe external corrosion
defects are contained in 2 km pipeline segment. To understand the causes of these corrosion
defects, forms, position and orientation, of these defects are studied, with reference to fabrication
and installation record documents of this pipeline. Study shows that tiny damages are done to the
anti-corrosion coating and water proof jacket because of ignorance to details. Joint watering and
pipe corrosion are results of these tiny damages. Suggestions are given to improve the details
treatment during pipeline design, fabrication and installation phases.
