This course will look at how young learners can improve their speech clarity, by articulating clearly and correctly the sounds of English in order to be better able to express themselves clearly and effectively in their everyday lives, with their peers and teachers using the metaphonological features that they will pick up during the course. With the skills that they will learn during this course, they will be able to be more effective speakers and they will be able to communicate in a clearer and more successful manner. Learners will also expand their mental lexicon by getting exposed to new ways of improving and expanding their word list in order to be better able to converse using appropriate lexis based on various contexts in order to successfully express themselves without much hesitation.

By the end of this course they will be able to: recognise, articulate and practice the different aspects of English pronunciation use the phonemic chart to identify individual and sound combinations to decipher how words are pronounced. recognise and apply word stress and sentence stress using intonation patterns reflect and recognise common errors in their pronunciation and overcome these pick- up new words around specific topics and add these to their existing word power organise and use vocabulary appropriately in context communicate with greater confidence using a variety of words and expressions

Course structure: Day 1: GTKY- (Getting to know you activities to lower the affective filter) Managing expectations What do you need? (needs analysis on pronunciation) First day questions : Wall crawl (student centred session around pronunciation) Pronunciation quiz-features of pronunciation Why improve your pronunciation skills?

Day 2: Intro to phonemic chart (quiz) Intro to single vowels Single vowels mingle activity Single vowel challenge Single vowel test Difficult single vowels activities and tongue twisters. Homework : single vowel revision
