Introduction
The project aims at SMART way of integration of renewable energy systems available from distributed energy sources from different parts of the country in a polygon format adopting ring grid integration. This will be followed by storage, conversion and interconnection of the stored energy to the main power supply grid. This will happen with the latest cutting edge digital technology for communication and control using SMART automated methods.

The non continuos distributed power generation systems will include solar, wind, tidal, geothermal etc.., which spreads at different parts of the country. This integration enables the collection of energy from different sources and is transferred to storage bus where energy storage systems are installed like battery storage, ultra capacitors etc.., The same energy is converted to alternating power of desired frequency and connected with the existing grid based on demand of the main grid.

SMART CONCEPT
SMART grid control system called SIICS (SMART Integration interconnection control system) which communicates, control the power generation from distributed sources, integration of distributed grids, power quality, power conversion, interconnection and load despatch to the main grid. This system should follow all the statutory requirements and latest standards of the SMART interconnection of distributed power sources. This system enables intelligent collection of energy, utilization of buses depending on the proper and economic interconnection to the main grid.

Integration and interconnection of grids

For simplicity of presentation the following schematics in next page shows only the interconnection of two power sources per ring grid. Grid switchgears A,B,D,E are extensible type supporting future expansion of distributed power generation and collection. Grid switch gears C & F are power storage and conversion grids which are integrated to complete the ring formation. These grids are interlinked with other ring grids to enable selection of storage systems based on the quantity of power generated in Bus C & F. The grid system can form the higher number of polygon grids in ring format based on the availbale of power sources.

Power Grid

All the power generating switch gear grids A,B D,E and storage switch gear grids C & F should have all the necessary protection and power quality requirements and are controlled with the support of SIICS. Now the Power storage and conversion can be done with the help of power electric systems or super capacitor storage. SIICS again controls the conversion, protection, power quality, load despatch to grid.

Advantages & requirements

This project enables the maximum collection of available green energy resources by proper planning of grid buses. This will reduce the cost involved in individual integration of distribution energy sources to main grid. This integration can even involve renewable energy generated from homes, public places exploring every opportunity for energy collection. This energy storage act as back up energy sources to the main grid by collecting energy whenever is available from green energy generation.
9

The energy storage and conversion systems can also act as sources for local small power distribution for electric vehicle charging, public utility requirements if grid demand doesn't arises and can be possible with the help of SIICS since all the storage buses are interconnected. This same concept can be extended to distributed power generation of offshore wind farms and other related systems. Proper energy system survey is required for optimal planning of grids considering all the possible levels of energy collection and future expansion. The design should in such a way for minimal modification of grids to avoid further expansion / upgradation. The total system should satisfy all the statutory requirements for power generation, integration and interconnection based on IEEE / NEC standards.
