SIGNIFICANCE OF THE WORK EXPERIENCE

My industrial work experience was a very interesting, challenging, demanding and educative one. The importance of which gave me the basic knowledge of how the corporate world operates. It also gave me the opportunity to put my theoretical knowledge of typing, planning, management, system diagnosis and programming to test. It has also given me the prospects of familiarizing and exposing myself to the needed experience in relating with other people especially those that are older and more experienced than I.

CHAPTER 2
LITERATURE REVIEW

I was involved in a lot of activities during my industrial work experience. The first day at work was Wednesday August 1, 2011, I was taken round the department and introduced as the new IT student. I was also taken round the organization to know the important offices within the organization. I was also taken to the server room, and was introduced to the officers in charge of the room. As a new member of staff of the ITSS department, I was given my own ID and password to be able to access the internet for research purpose during working hours.

CHAPTER 3
ACTIVITIES PERFORMED WITHIN ITSS DEPARTMENT

In the Infrastructure and Technical System Support department of the National Information Technology Development Agency, the following activities are being performed;

The department is in charge of the servers in the agency. The department is in charge of repairs of hardware problems on any system within the agency.

The department is also in charge of installing and uninstalling software on any system within the agency, such as; antivirus, Microsoft office, etc.

The department is in charge of providing technical support to the systems within the agency.

The department is also in charge of fixing any problem that has to do with the network, and the agencys website.

The following duties were performed by me; I made photocopies and printed some of the documents needed in the office I received official mails, and delivered them to the DGs office I was called upon occasionally, to attend to some members of staff in other departments that had one problem or the other with their systems. Such problems include; System too slow, System going off occasionally, or to install software on systems. etc. I also attended Cisco training classes occasionally, organised by the agency for IT students and youth corps members, and any other interested persons. I once assisted in the fixing of a printer that the ink was overfloating. Sometimes, I meet some of my colleagues on IT that know some things I dont knw, to explain those things to me, e.g html, cloud computing,teamviewer etc. I also used my leisure time in the office for self development, by downloading online tutorials to understand how to do some things, e.g From this, I was able to create a sample website on my own.

CHAPTER 4
CHALLENGES On a personal level I will say I didnt face much challenges during the cause of the industrial training, because I looked at every challenge as a means of learning. But some of the challenges I faced were;

Some of the staff members complaining about their systems were not patient enough to let me understand what was actually wrong with the system.

In some cases, the system needed to be carried away to my (ITSS) department, but the complainants most times dont want their systems to be carried away from them.

It took about a week before I was given anything to do in the office, I was being given special newcomer treatment, which was really not needed.

Apart from these, I was able to manage very well in all other tasks given to me.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

My experience at National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has been worthwhile in which I trained for a period of 9 weeks between 1st of August, 2012 and 28th of September, 2012. I acquired some experience on how things were run in an office environment. I was posted to the Infrastructural and Technical System Support department, which is actually related to my course of study in school. I was still able to gain little IT experience in this department, and was also able to impact the little knowledge I had about computer systems.
