O DEATH, WHERE IS THY STING? O GRAVE, WHERE IS THY VICTORY?

1 Cor 15:55-57 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for Your victory over death and the grave! Without You, that sting of sin and the judgment of the law, would prevent us from ever tasting eternal life. I am so grateful that the Lord Jesus Christ lived without sin so He could come out of that grave on the third day. As He stood before the Father that day, the Father once again said, This is My Son, in Whom I am well pleased. Jesus made a way for us to approach our Heavenly Father and to be born into the Kingdom of God! How dare we neglect so GREAT SALVATION! If you have been born, you will also die or be taken out in the rapture! You dont ask to be born, but its up to you as to how prepared you are to die. Christ made a way to Life and its free to anyone who receives it. This life is short. In Heaven, there is no time table, but on earth we are running on a clock. Paul says we are running a race. No one knows when that clock will stop. The old heart goes bump, bump, bump, instead of tick, tick, tock. One day that old heart will remain silent and when it does, where will you be?

THE BIBLES PEDIGREE

The Bible is, we plainly see; Then it must have a pedigree. It either is a Book divine, Or men to make it did combine. Suppose the latter; then they must Either be wicked men or just: Take either case, and you will see A proof of its divinity. If wicked men composed this Book, Surely their senses they forsook; For they the righteous man defend And curse the bad from end to end. If righteous, then they change their name, For they the authorship disclaim And often say, Thus saith the Lord, And testify, It is His Word. If it be not, they tell a lie And all their righteousness deny. ---Author unknown (Taken from The Poetry of Preaching, by Dr. Clyde H. Box)

Glorias daddy taught her and her sister that until you are prepared to die, you are not ready to live! How true that is. Until you come to Christ, you are wasting your life. The Bible says that in the flesh we cannot please God, and we cannot live through the Spirit of Christ until we have received Him as our Lord and Savior. Until you are settled about who your God is, you do not have a foundation and are like the wind driven to and fro. If God is God, and I believe He is, then He has the answers to life, and life will be found in Him and nowhere else. I remember the relief I experienced when I yielded to Christ and received His offer of salvation. I could relax and let Him be God, and all I needed to do was to follow Him, learn His Word and head His voice.

EVERY SAINT HAS A PAST, EVERY SINNER HAS A FUTURE. THE PAST KEEPS THE SAINT HUMBLE. THE FUTURE KEEPS THE SINNERS HOPEFUL. MOST EVERY TIME I GET IN HOT WATER, GOD USES IT TO CLEAN ME UP.

O DEATH, WHERE IS THY STING? O GRAVE, WHERE IS THY VICTORY?

1 Cor 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

(Continued from page 1)

Because of this wonderful thing the Lord Jesus Christ has done for us, there are some things that we should do for Him. BE STEADFAST! Be settled! Know what you believe. If I asked you if you believe that you cannot lose your salvation, what would you say? Can you prove what you would say. If you cannot prove it, you will not be settled concerning it. Baptists are just about the only denomination that believes in Eternal Security. Yet, many times we will say that if you commit murder you cant go to Heaven. Is that true? Is our going to Heaven depending on our works, or the work of Christ. We cant have it both ways. Salvation is determined by what we do with the Lord Jesus Christ, not our works. Murder is wrong and God hates our taking the life of someone else, but our first judgment is, What did you do with Jesus? Then, we are rewarded according to our works. If someone taught you what you believe, but you have never studied Scripture to know what you believe, then you will not be steadfast. You are not settled until you have seen it in the Word of God. We owe it to Christ to become steadfast and knowledgeable about everything we say we believe. You had better get started, because this is a work of a lifetime!

expect anything thing back. Im not worthy enough to expect anything! That sounds really humble, but thats just not true. If we didnt expect something, we wouldnt do it! We are not rewarded for who we are, we are rewarded by who Christ is. He does not expect us to serve Him for nothing. The only hope I have of having anything is what Christ gives me. Everything else will burn in the fire. Christ rewards us with things we cannot obtain through our flesh. It is not easy to become steadfast. It requires diligent work of seeking God and His Word. It takes great strength of character to become unmoveable, and Satan is working overtime attempting to get us to move a little to the right or a little to the left. It takes commitment to be abounding in the work of the Lord. Why would we do it? BECAUSE our labor is not in vain! Dont forget that. Serve others the way you want God to serve you. He rewards us according to our ways. He turns our way back upon us, therefore what we do and how we do it is very important to our lives.
Acts 2:22-24 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it

BE UNMOVEABLE! We cannot allow mens opinions to move us from the declared Word of God. I think of Jeroboam, the king of Israel, who made Israel to sin. When the kingdom split, Rehoboam had the house of God in his land and Jeroboam was afraid everyone would return to Rehoboam in order to worship God in His house. So, Jeroboam built calves and altars and made priest out of just anyone who wanted to be a priest. He still said he was worshipping the God of Israel, but he was just doing it HIS WAY and not GODS WAY. We must not move from Gods way to impress man or to follow man. We must be unmoveable when it comes to Gods ordinances and statutes. Our churches are so divided today about how to worship. Be sure your worship lines up with Gods Word! ALWAYS ABOUNDING in the work of the Lord! That means to super abound in quantity or quality, to be in excess or to excel. If you are going to go overboard with anything, let it be in the work of the Lord. Dont be half hearted in your service to Christ. He put His all into what He did for us and we need to put our all into what we do for Him. I promise you one thing for sure. If you will submit your life to Christ and allow Him to use you anyway He sees fit, you will never be lonely or bored. Gloria and I have stood amazed at the things Christ has brought into our lives and the things He has asked us to do. We have lived a most interesting life since Christ became our life. Why should we make such an investment in the work of the Lord? Because, OUR LABOUR IS NOT IN VAIN. God does not let our work go unnoticed or unrewarded! Did you hear me? He NEVER lets our work be in vain. I hear some people from time to time say, I dont do this for reward. I dont

was not possible that he should be holden of it.

Rom 5:18

Therefore as by the offence of one (Adam) judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one (Lord Jesus Christ) the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. ---Editor

QUOTES ABOUT PREACHERS AND PRAYER

Study universal holiness of life. Your whole usefulness depends on this, for your sermons last but an hour or two; your life preaches all week. If Satan can only make a covetous minister a lover of praise, of pleasure, of good eating, he has ruined your ministry. Give your self to prayer, and get your texts, your thoughts, your words from God. Luther spent his best three hours in prayer. ----Robert Murray McCheyne The preachers sharpest and strongest preaching should be to himself. His most difficult, delicate, laborious, and thorough work must be with himself. The training of the twelve was the great, difficult, and enduring work of Christ. Preachers are not sermon makers, but men makers and saint makers, and he only is well-trained for this business who has made himself a man and a saint. It is not great talents nor great learning nor great preachers that God needs, but men great in holiness, great in faith, great in love, great in fidelity, great for God -- men always preaching by holy sermons in the pulpit, by holy lives out of it. These can mold a generation for God. Preaching which kills is prayerless preaching. Without prayer the preacher creates death, and not life. The preacher who is feeble in prayer is feeble in life-giving forces. The preacher who has retired prayer as a conspicuous and largely prevailing element in his own character has shorn his preaching of its distinctive life-giving power. Stop! Pause! Consider! Where are we ? What are we doing? Preaching to kill? Praying to kill? Praying to God! the great God, the Maker of all worlds, the Judge of all men! What reverence! What simplicity! What sincerity! What truth in the inward parts is demanded! How real we must be! How hearty! Prayer to God the noblest exercise, the loftiest effort of man, the most real thing! Shall we not discard forever accursed preaching that kills and prayer that kills, and do the real thing, the mightiest thing -- prayerful praying, life-creating preaching, bring the mightiest force to bear on heaven and earth and draw on Gods exhaustless and open treasure for the need and beggary of man? Prayer - secret, fervent, believing prayer- lies at the root of all personal godliness. A competent knowledge of the language where a missionary lives, a mild and winning temper, a heart given up to God in closet religion - these, these are the attainments which, more than all knowledge, or all other gifts, will fit us to become the instruments of God in the great work of human redemption. ---Careys Brotherhood, Serampore There are two extreme tendencies in the ministry. The one is to shut itself out from intercourse with the people. The monk, the hermit were illustrations of this; they shut themselves out from men to be more with God. They failed, of course. Our being with God is of use only as we expend its priceless benefits on men. This age, neither with preacher nor with people, is much intent on God. Our hankering is not that way. We shut ourselves to our study, we become students, bookworms, Bible worms, sermon makers, noted for literature, thought, and sermons; but the people and God, where are they? Out of heart, out of mind. Preachers who are great thinkers, great students must be the greatest of prayers, or else they will be the greatest of backsliders, heartless professions, rationalistic, less than the least of preachers in Gods estimate. The other tendency is to thoroughly popularize the ministry. He is no longer Gods man, but a man of affairs, of the people. If he can move the people,

create an interest, a sensation in favor of religion, an interest in Church workhe is satisfied. His personal relation to God is no factor in his work. Prayer has little or no place in his plans. The disaster and ruin of such a ministry cannot be computed by earthly arithmetic. What the preacher is in prayer to God, for himself, for his people, so is his power for real good to men, so is his true fruitfulness, his true fidelity to God, to man, for time, for eternity. Prayer is the first thing, the second thing, and the third thing necessary to a minister. Pray, then, my dear brother; pray, pray, pray. ---Edward Payson Gods true preachers have been distinguished by one great feature: they were men of prayer. Differing often in many things, they have always had a common center. They may have started from different points, and traveled by different roads, but they converged to one point: they were one in prayer. God to them was the center of attraction, and prayer was the path that led to God. For nothing reaches the heart but what is from the heart, or pierces the conscience but what comes from a living conscience. - William Penn. In the morning I was more engaged in preparing the head than the heart. This has been frequently my error, and I have always felt the evil of it, especially in prayer. Reform it, then, O Lord! Enlarge my heart, and I shall preach. - Robert Murray McCheyne The quotes in italics are from E. M. Bounds. A book was printed in 1952, entitled Preacher and Prayer. The book was given to us from Bro. Mel (Uncle Mel) Rutters library. When Uncle Mel passed away, Mrs. Dottie Rutter gave us many of his books. If you are a preacher or teacher of Gods Word I think if you could find this book it, would be a real blessing to you.

GIVE THANKS AT THE REMEMBRANCE OF HIS HOLINESS.

Ps 97:9-12 For thou, Lord, art high above all the earth: thou art exalted far above all gods. Ye that love the Lord, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked. Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart. Rejoice in the Lord, ye righteous; and give thanks at the

remembrance of

began this article, I received a call from a troubled mother and son. I had to stop and be a mediator for them so they could both get their bearings and make sure they were obedient to the Lord in their division. The son was struggling but allowed me to speak my piece. I love this family and God has called me to stand beside them while they build their lives upon the Word of God. This is what God has given me to do! I love it, but it can be exhausting at times. Some of the days I kept a log of calls and many days there would be 25 to 30 calls. Many of those calls were people with troubles. I dont know how we had time to answer the phone, but we did. I began to look at the sickness and deaths that we had walked through with others. Many pages of notes had 3 to 5 deaths recorded in one day. We never had one person sick, it was always 3 or 4, and they were never in the same hospital. Dallas has hospitals all over town, and it is very time consuming to drive to them. Some days we would spend the whole day going from one hospital to another. In the last two years I have not been able to make many hospital calls, because of physically not being able to walk that far. My health has not permitted me to do for the sick what I have always done through the years. I miss serving the way I did all those years, but I am beginning to need to be served in some ways. Jerry cannot lift the loads he once lifted and he hires young men to work with him so he can keep working. I cant stand long periods of time in the kitchen anymore, and setting up all night at the hospitals

Some years ago, Grace McMillan (oldest daughter of Dr. John R. Rice) taught me a valuable lesson. Grace would write and I would type what she wrote. She was writing as she was dying of breast cancer. Her strength was almost gone, but she would prop herself up on her elbow and write. She was writing a little booklet titled God Pried Up My Fingers, One by One. As she was writing and I was typing, she stopped and looked up at me and said, Gloria, are you writing down the things God is giving you each day? I said, No, but I plan to one day. She said, Do you think God just wants you to know what He is saying to you? Dont you think He wants you to share it with others? I had not thought of it that way, but I began recording the works that the Lord was doing in my life so I could share it with others. I had written some journals through the years, but not very many. This week I decided to get my notes out and see if I could organize them so my family could have them after I am gone. Rather than type them over, I am reading into a recorder that hooks up to my computer. I have recorded over 500 entries this week and in looking back at our life, I didnt realize just how full our lives had been. I was exhausted just reading about it. Sometimes I would cry as I read and others times I went into laughter. I think my notes go back to the 60s and I was very young then. It is interesting to see how I have changed my thinking over the years. As I read I can see the Hand of my God upon my life. Certainly, it is a remembrance of His holiness! He has always been right. Our lives have been lives of interruptions! Most of what God has asked us to do has not been planned but has come as interruptions to our schedules. As I

HELP FOR STUDY OF THE KINGS!

We hope this will be helpful to you as you read through I and II Samuel, I and II Kings and I and II Chronicles. There is much to learn from the lives of the kings, but sometimes it can get very confusing. There are more than one king with the same name. Some have names spelled two or three ways. This chart will help you to keep that straight. If you follow the time line, you will be able to see what Prophets were with which kings. If you would like to study time lines you need to look up the Rose Publishing, Inc. Torrance, California. They have books on the Tabernacle, the Ark, the Temple and many others. Their materials are very good. We bought a time line that began 2200 BC and goes to 2000 AD. It is a great way to get a good look at what was going on at the time the Bible was being written.

March winds are blowing through. Soon we should have April showers, but then comes May flowers. Again it is time to watch things grow and bloom. We would never choose to have seasons of life. We would choose to have all perfect days. We would never choose to have trials either, but thats where the gold comes from! Gods grace has been sweet to Tid Bits of Wisdom. Last year the Lord provided all our needs. We do not have great excess, but it is always sufficient. This work will not move passed Gods provisions. We believe Gods provisions is Gods way of directing our path. We would like to increase our work as God increases the provisions. We purchased some equipment this month which drains the balance, but our needs were met. To our faithful supporters we again say thank you. You are in our hearts, and every time God uses this work to minister to a life, we think about you. When we put the paper out each month, we pray for each name as we place it on the paper. When we come to someone we know personally we remember the happenings of their lives. We ask God to bless each one of you and repay you for your gifts to this work. The paper is not the only part of this ministry. Gloria and I counsel people daily who have great needs in their lives. Many need many hours of counsel for long periods of time. It is a full time work on top of the care for the church. Mine and Glorias health has improved lately. I have now been running on 15% heart function for over 2 years, but it has not declined. I work full days, and the doctor said that was what was keeping me alive. He said I was like a Timex Watch. You swat it and it just keeps running! Gloria is getting around much better. She has found a supplement that has really made a difference in her strength. Through it all, God keeps us going. As long as you have breath, move what you can and use it for the glory of God. Life is a gift.

CHURCH SIGNS
Youre not too bad to come in. Youre not too good to stay out. Be the person your dog thinks you are. Some people change when they see the light, Others when they feel the heat. It was once said that if you took all of the people who fell asleep in church and laid them end-to-end, they would be more comfortable. Biscuits and sermons are improved by shortening. Those who plant greed will reap a mine field. Christians, like pianos, need frequent tuning. If you see only shadows, that means a light is shining nearby. Nobody can do everything, but everybody can do something. When your spirit grows, God prunes it to make it fruitful. Thanks and giving go together.

Letters: Thanks to all of you for encouraging us with your paper. It makes the days better with your comments and Gods Word explained. The blessings are there for everyone to read, and hide it in our hearts. Selah D. E. Harper, TX. We have received letters from Pablo Leza, who is in prison. Almost seven years ago he received Christ as his Lord and Savior. He wrote us at that time but he wrote in Spanish and we had to have someone read it to us. He has written after these years in English. He has served seven years of a 30 year sentence. Tid Bits cannot support the needs of those we send to in prison but we ask that you pray for them and ask the Lord to send what they need for daily use. Many do not have family and they covet our prayers.

is just not possible anymore. I am finding it very difficult to admit to myself that I do not have the strength that I did in my youth. If you are young and reading this article may I admonish you to use your strength helping others, because one day, if you are fortunate enough to live long enough, you will need the help of others. Years ago, Bro. Gary Coleman, pastor of Lavon Drive Baptist Church, in Garland, Texas, preached a sermon on foot washing. He had his Associate Pastor to take his shoes off, and he washed his feet. The Associate Pastor, Bro. John McCartt is a very distinguished man and it looked so strange for him to take his shoes and socks off in public. I thought to myself as I watched, that I would wash anybodys feet, but I didnt want to have my feet washed. The Holy Spirit whispered in my ear, Thats what your problem is Gloria; you dont know how to let someone else serve you! Ouch! It is more blessed to give than to receive,. Thats true; but if you want to bless others, let them serve your needs. My love is biography books. Thats why I love, Judges, I and II Samuel, I and II Kings, and I and II Chronicles. They are the biographies of the kings and you can learn so much about mankind and the mind and heart of God when you read their stories. When we look back we can see how God has worked in our lives and give thanks of His holiness. God is faithful, merciful, long suffering, forgiving, gracious and gentle! Life is tough! It is sure good to have a God to stand with us that we can know will be HOLY in all His ways. I thought I might just share one day of my journal with you. Every day was not like this day that I am writing about, but many, many days were like this. This was not an unusual day, but thank the Lord He does give us some days of rest. 10-15-2007: This day started at 5:30 am. We live in a small two bedroom, one bath house. My mother and my aunt (her sister) live with us. They are 87 and 83 years of age. My aunt got up at 5:30 am to go to the rest room. She passed out and fell into the wall putting a knot on the right side of her head, above her ear. She had a gash about 1 1/2 in. I called an ambulance and I went with her to Charlton Methodist Hospital. I had an appointment to take mother to the same hospital at 9:00 am for pre-op. She was to have surgery for breast cancer. While they were stapling my aunts head (they also stapled her hair to her head), Jerry brought mother up and he stayed with my aunt while I took mother for pre-op. At 11:15 am, I took my aunt and Jerry back to the house while mother and I went to another doctor across town. A friends lights went out at her house so she was at my house doing her laundry. She helped Jerry with my aunt while we were at the doctor. While I was gone Jerry received a call saying our precious friend, Martha Green (Bro. Roloffs secretary) died this morning! Later, a call came saying that my uncle had a massive stroke and it didnt look like he would live. Later, my brother in law called and said he had been caught between the elevator doors, and it had injured his shoulder and his head. It knocked him to the floor. Jerry called one of our members to tell him about my uncle (he was kin to his family), and he told Jerry that his wifes brother-in-law died this morning!!! Our son Steve and his wife Diane heard what all we had gone through and called and said they were coming over to cook our supper. They got here at 7:00 pm and we ate at 9:00 pm. Our son likes to embellish the food. Jerry said, Look, he put grass in our potatoes.

GIVE THANKS AT THE REMEMBRANCE OF HIS HOLLINESS

While I was at the hospital with mother, a lady went out of her way to be kind to me. It was sweet to have a stranger care. Its 12:45 and we are worried about my aunt falling in the night! Going to bed shortly, I hope! Maybe you have had some days like this, or maybe you are having a day like this at this time. When things start getting tough at our house I start quoting these verses. Phil 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Phil 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Ps 118:24 This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Remember, the Lord is Holy! What is your attitude about where and how God is using your life today? Many people are angry about the things that are in their lives and do not realize that their anger is toward God and not man. God is in charge of what I go through each day. He has the power to keep me from my troubles, but chooses to leave them in my life. WHY?
Heb 5:8-9 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; 1 Peter 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
