Cerebral palsy is an umbrella-like term used to describe a group of chronic disorders impairing control of movement that appear in the first few years of life and generally do not worsen over time. The disorders are caused by faulty development of or damage to motor areas in the brain that disrupts the brain's ability to control movement and posture. Early signs of cerebral palsy usually appear before 3 years of age. Infants with cerebral palsy are frequently slow to reach developmental milestones such as learning to roll over, sit, crawl, smile, or walk. Cerebral palsy may be congenital or acquired after birth. Several of the causes of cerebral palsy that have been identified through research are preventable or treatable: head injury, jaundice, Rh incompatibility, and rubella (German measles). There is no standard therapy that works for all patients. Drugs can be used to control seizures and muscle spasms, special braces can compensate for muscle imbalance. Surgery, mechanical aids to help overcome impairments, counseling for emotional and psychological needs, and physical, occupational, speech, and behavioral therapy may be employed. At this time, cerebral palsy cannot be cured, but due to medical research, many patients can enjoy near-normal lives if their neurological problems are properly managed. (INTRODUCED BY SEN. According to Dennis Ilagan FIRST PRESIDENT of CEREBRAL PALSIED ASSOCIATION OF THE PHILIPPINES, cerebral palsy is basically a kind of

paralysis resulting from a lack of oxygen in the parts of the brain responsible for motor functions. It often occurs before or shortly after birth. The resulting "spasticity of the muscles" makes the performance of most daily activities very difficult, he said. Thus, "slowness of movement" is the main cause of the hardships faced by those afflicted-or other PWDs, for that matter-in their struggle to go mainstream by attaining higher education, finding jobs, or simply taking part in normal social functions. Don't focus on our disability but on what we can do," said the groom, Dennis Ilagan, 42, vice president of theCerebral Palsy Association of the Philippines (CPAP) http://www.zoominfo.com/#!search/profile/person?personId=732911042&targetid=profil e

The Philippines is known to be a family centered nation. The Filipinos recognize their family as an important social structure that one must take care of. They give importance to the safety and unity of ones family. The Filipino family is so intact that i t is common for members of the same family work for the same company. It is also common to find the whole clan living in the same area as that the Filipinos are afraid to be too far from their own family. People get strength from their family. As a Filipino, it is really hard for them that their family members were not okay, if theres something wrong with them and most especially if one of a member of their family is sick. It is hard for them because they want everybody were healthy and happy. Having a member of a

Filipino family that is cerebral palsied can make a big impact to other family members (Paril, 2009).

The Filipinos faith in God is one of the strongest, if not the strongest and most intense in the entire world (Sison, 2012). Among the many characteristics that describe us, Filipinos, the value of faith is the most important. Filipinos continue to cherish and value faith in God.
