February 11, 2013 AUSL Principal 3400 N. Austin Ave. Chicago, IL 60634 Dear Principal: I believe that all students, regardless of background or circumstance, can experience academic success. In order to normalize student achievement, schools must challenge students and support young people. Students should be taught by teachers who genuinely want to help them reach their full potential. Educators must also be aware of the adversity that students face and be prepared to consistently nurture them. Please accept my letter of application for an elementary teaching position at an AUSL school. Given my experiences in both undergraduate and graduate school, and my yearlong residency at Bradwell School of Excellence, I feel as though I am uniquely prepared to utilize my skills and knowledge of elementary school students to provide a quality education. My yearlong teaching residency has prepared me to be an effective urban teacher who observed and implemented best teaching and management practices. These practices include: Planning and teaching my own lessons Implementing instructional strategies such as Think-Pair-Share, small group work, and a variety of check for checks for understanding Utilizing the Behavior Management Cycle and Signature Strategies such as 100%, Strong Voice, What To Do, and No Opt Out to successfully create a climate of respect and rapport Differentiating instruction so all students have the opportunity to learn and achieve in all content areas Using data to plan future instruction, including formative and summative assessments Participating in grade-level planning meetings and professional development Collaborating with grade-level team to align curriculum

I believe my love for teaching, organization, and earnest desire to help students succeed makes me a perfect fit for an AUSL School. I am very eager to prove that I can assist students in experiencing academic success through hard work and dedication. I hope I will have the opportunity to discuss your schools goals and how I can be of assistance in achieving them. I look forward to speaking with you to discuss this in greater detail. Sincerely,

Leslie N. Madorsky Enclosure: Rsum
