Council of School Supervisors and Administrators Endorses Austin Shafran for City Council
Shafran gains fourth labor endorsement of campaign following strong first campaign filing Northeast Queens, NYToday CSA, which represents over 6,000 principals and assistant principals, as well as over 6,400 retirees, announced its endorsement of Democrat Austin Shafran for City Council. This represnets the latest in a series of endorsements from prominent labor unions for Shafran, which coupled with his strong initial filing this month demonstrate the campaigns growing momentum and support within the district and across the city. Ernest Logan, President of CSA said, Austin comes from a family of educators and understands the needs of our students, teachers and administrators. We know that no one will fight harder to help our members continue to improve our schools. Just as great schools begin with great leaders, great government needs great leadership and Austin is that leader, Logan concluded. Austin Shafran, candidate for City Council (CD-19) said, As someone who was raised in a family of educators and worked in classrooms across our city, I know that it takes a village to educate a child. Thats why I am honored to receive the support of CSA, which has a proud tradition as one of the education communitys leading organizations. Great schools lead to great opportunities for our students, and that is a priority I will fight to enhance and advance on behalf of all families as a member of the City Council. I look forward to working with the school administrators in my district to make sure they have the resources they need to make the schools of Northeast Queens the best in the city. In addition to the most recent endorsement by CSA, Shafran has earned the endorsement of the Teamsters Joint Council 16, which represents over 120,000 workers from 29 local unions, UFCW local 1500, representing over 30,000 supermarket workers and retail food workers in New York City, and local 32BJ SEIU, which represents over 70,000 property service workers in New York. Shafran most recently served in Governor Cuomos Administration as Vice President of Public Affairs for the states economic development agency, where he played a significant role in executing the Governors aggressive job growth and small business development agenda. In this capacity, Shafran helped to foster the growth of tens of thousands of new jobs and local businesses,

administer over $1 billion in small business assistance programs, and reduce the tax burden on middle-class families to its lowest rate in almost 60 years through fair share tax reform. Shafran has also worked for Congressman Gary Ackerman, the New York State Senate Democrats and City Councilman David Weprin. A former semi-professional baseball player, Shafran has volunteered to coach little league and mentor young players in local youth sports organizations in our community.
